Thoughts about next season...

I've had quite a long think about this before putting finger to keyboard but a few things have come to mind about next season and the proposed restructuring of the Pyramid. These are all thoughts relating to the proposed legal challenge that the Isthmian League is apparently preparing.

1. What happens if the FA gets sufficiently peeved that it eases the Isthmian League totally out of the picture and lets the Southern League administer all of the level under the Conference in the south of England?

2. What happens if the Isthmian League gets into financial difficulties over any legal challenge it might make to the FA (whether the above happens or not)?

3. Won't clubs from the southern feeders mostly want to go into the feeder which is administered by the Southern League, on the grounds that there will be more stability and less likelihood of them having to bail their lords and masters out if (2) above happens and more chance of promotion if (1) above happens?

4. Will Ryman still want to be associated with a football league which, through actions which many perceive to be petty, might bring its sponsors bad publicity and will any other sponsor put in the same amount of capital if it turns out they won't?

5. Do the officers of the Isthmian League really think that it will matter more to clubs that they are playing in an Isthmian-administered league rather than playing in any league at that level?

6. To me it looks like empire-building by the officers of the Isthmian League.

7. Will they bend/rewrite any rules necessary to get clubs with bigger crowds from the current feeders (e.g. Enfield Town, AFC Wimbledon, Romford, etc) into the Isthmian set-up whether they deserve it or not?

8. If we can get Andy to brew enough of his award-winning beer, do we care? <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I believe over 90% of Ryman clubs do not support the legal challenge, and have applied to join the Conference South (NLP 16-11-03)

The 2 people behind the challenge by Ryman League are a Mr Sophocleous ( heard the name before somewhere?) and John Goodwin of Bishop Stortford.

I believe the FA will get what they want as the Ryman league have signed an agreement; all this does is agai line the pockets of the solicitors.

In a discussion on the subject elsewhere, Freebird (who presumably knows these things through his position as a club officer) said that it was in fact the Ryman member clubs opposing the restructuring as proposed, not merely the officers.

My apologies to Freebird if I have misrepresented him but I believe that is the gist of what he said.

Whatever your differences of opinion may be, I understand that Freebird is General Secretary of a Ryman League Club, so I presume he knows something.

But then again, what do I know?

At the last Ryman meeting I went to, a legal challenge was discussed.

If memory serves the management committee were given the mandate to look into the feasability as a "fighting fund was required".

It was proposed that all clubs should 'donate' a particular figure but that was not carried and THEY were supposed to report back to the clubs on their findings.

Both are now (co-opted) onto the Ryman Board of Directors.
