Red Insure Cup + hedgehogs

Recommended Posts

Slough lost 3-2 tonight to Egham.

Sounds like no injuries were picked up in our game which is good, however the same cannot be said about the Hitchin vs Arseley game which saw the linesman get SAVAGED by a rogue hedgehog :D

On one hand it's the league cup which no club really prioritises and it's just extra games but it's also another defeat making it 4 in a row and 11 goals shipped in the last 2 games. Add into that the 2 new players that didn't happen meaning the squad will be stretched again going into Saturdays match. Although Cambridge aren't doing too well so far, from previous form they're usually one of the to teams plus they've just been granted approval to build a new ground (seems everyone else gets the go ahead apart from us!). I just hope we can put in a decent performance and get something from the game and not make it 5 defeats in a row.

A difficult time for us all at the moment.

Confidence has certainly taken a big dip in the last 2 weeks which is crazy considering it was just 2 weeks ago we were playing brilliantly at Corby to record our 3rd straight win. It is a fact that 6 players who started that night were unavailable to us last night through injury but to be honest I am boring myself talking about injuries so I can only imagine how sick everyone else is of hearing about them!

Bakes and I are very aware of what needs to be done to strengthen and get us back on track but it's not always easy to make those changes. We have both spent an incredible amount of time on the phone in the past week trying to improve the squad, whether it be short term to cover the missing players or longer term targets, and we had two agreed and lined up on Monday night (with one actually signed), only for these to fall through on the morning of the game. You have no idea how frustrating that is when you have worked so hard to make these happen.

In the mean time the players have a responsibility to pull together, work hard and fight for their place in the side and make sure we turn the corner quickly. One win can change everything and although Cambridge City away is clearly not an easy game they are also struggling for form and confidence and we have to go there and believe we can get that win.

Please keep the faith and remain positive. There were plenty of gloomy faces around the place (mine included!) last Christmas when things seemed pretty dire but we got it right and achieved our goal last season. There is still time to make this an incredibly positive first season at this level and both Bakes and I are determined that will be the case again this time.

Last night Would of been nice to get a result but we didn't half of our bench was on the side! Well done to matty not the result he would have wanted but still getting the minutes under his belt.... As for egham couldn't care less 'staff' are a bunch of tools who need to stop bullying the away fans with 'we'll chuck u out' cause someone actually stands up to them! Don't start if you don't want a response! Some people should just enjoy the game and stop making stupid comments

I thought we did alright first half and might have edged it. Ed Smith looked back to something like his old self scoring a good goal and scything down a defender for which he somehow escaped a card! Ben Edwards was very tidy in midfield.

However, once we conceded a very soft goal early in the second half our heads did seem to drop and there only looked like one winner from there. Apart from a good chance for Ed and a couple of Dobbo free kicks we rarely troubled them and they finished us off with a very well taken goal.

Confidence is obviously low and I think one or two are guilty of almost trying to do too much rather than staying calm and doing the simple things well. Some crucial games coming up against teams below and around us. Lets get behind the team and hope we can turn the corner.

Dobbo is now in the same class when taking free kicks as our ex star free kick taker Chalky White never forget the one he scored at Wexham Park against Leyton Orient in F A Cup replay stunning.

If it was the half-way line incident, according to Twitter, Ed Smith was booked for that.

to be honest i think this result will turn out to be a god send, our players seem very fragile this season and i can see no good coming out of playing in all these "mickey mouse" cups.  i think you will find that all of the top teams try and get out of them as soon as they can. i think we can only profit by being out of it. :duel:

Can't disagree HT except to say winning and the confidence that comes with winning play a major part in a players psyche.

I Don't Know what the Budget is at Egham to be Honest. But to run any team in the Southern league is not Cheap. Think you was just having a sly Dig at Egham.
