Disscuss...

Since West Ham got relegated, The "Daggers" have been struggling, Hornchurch doing well, is there in fact, a mobile fan base in East London that actually supports "successful" teams and only gives their loyalty whilst that team are doing well...

Does this mean that the Football Supporting Public (known as the FSP) in this area (East London) are becoming increasingly fickle?

(apologies for those supporters of each club mentioned that were there during the lean times)

Not at all, despite West Ham getting relegated, they still attract crowds of 30,000+ every home game, the best in the first division and better than a good many crowds in the premier as well. Our improving attendances have less to do with other local teams failures, but more to do with our own success. With every passing season for the past 2 or 3 years, our crowds have been growing on a season-by-season basis as the team moves up the divisions!

I don't think so either. I used to watch Hornchurch 15 or so years ago then moved away. I've always supported the following three teams and can not see any reason for that ever changing;

Leyton Orient

Dagenham [& Redbridge]

Hornchurch

You will find people jumping on the bandwagon but surely at this level a resonable amount of extra bums on seats can only be good. If it reached Man Utd levels then that's another matter entirely!

I've only recently moved back into the area and haven't been to Bridge Ave for a long time but I keep promising myself that I'll get along there. Be nice to put some faces to names [if I knew who you were when I turned up!]. Unfortunately can't do tonight as am busy entertaining.

Maybe he meant "discus" - heavy disc thrown in athletic exercises.
Which reminds me of that old joke...read on...

Man walks into pub and order a pint of bitter. He puts it down on the nearest table and goes off to the loo. While he's there a woman goes up to his pint and "blows off" on it.
When the bloke comes back from the loo, another geezer says to him "Do you know that woman over there just "blew off" on your pint?" So the first bloke goes over and asks her: "'Ere, you fart in m'Whitbread?".
"No", she replied, "Tessa Sanderson".

I agree with Lord..but new converts such as myself didnt realize how good non league football actually was until I was persuaded by a mate of mine to come and watch Hornchurch (I have moved this way recently from Canning Town..guess who I support!!)

I found that i was surprised by the skill levels involved and had such a great day out that I have been hooked ever since...nothing to do with how well my team is doing as I still frequent Upton Park...but I really enjoy watching Hornchurch...the whole day is a buzz..I am going tonight and Saturday and getting my ticket for Tranmere...And I also believe this to be the same for a lot of other "new" fans.#

There is a lot more advertising for the matches now..even in my local pub (Firkin) so its bound to make more fans aware.

One last point...As a football fan I have always supported the team from my area..IE West Ham, England and now Hornchurch..(Unlike 90% of Man U!)

As I now Live, Work, drink and socialise in Hornchurch, doesn't it make sense to support MY local team???

P.S I am sooooo glad I didn't move to Billericay!

Imagine having to go and watch them every week???

EMHdad, I agree with the majority of what you said, like yourself since moving to Hornchurch from NARM(Dagenham) six years ago I`ve always looked at there results to see how they have got on each week. After attending the cup game against Ricay i also have been totally hooked. I think the club should also give itself a big pat on the back for the way it has made people in the area more aware of the good things that are happpening at Bridge Ave. I would also like to add the point that the addmision prices of £6-50 for adults & children under the age of 12 accompanying that adult (free) which have stayed the same for league games as well as the two cup games against Darlo & Tranmere show that the club do not intend ripping the fans off. It also runs a free 50seater coach to away games as well, which myself & many others had a wonderful day out at Braintree last saturday...I would like to say on behalf of myself & i guess many others that i think everyone at the club from the chairman down to the lovely Urchiettes that you are doing a grand job for not only the football club but for the community as well. Keep up the good work & MAX!!!!! thanks for the beers in the bar after the Braintree game.......... OH one more thing. EMHdad. No more sly digs at supporting a team from your area. Having the unfortunate pleasure of being born in Plaistow, Ukkkkkk, i`ve followed the TOON ARMY Home & abroad for the last 25yrs & Hornchurch For the last five weeks..LOL..................... Sir Bobby Robson & George Borg..

I am a Hammers fan first and foremost and am proud to admit as much. I first came and watched the Chins right at the beginning of last season. I had no idea what league they were in or the fact that they were a team on the up and up. At that point the Hammers were starting the season in the Premiership having finished 7th the season before, so I had no idea at that point how bad things would get!!!

Anyway, to cut a long story short I enjoyed the atmosphere at Hornchurch and enjoyed watching players who actually seemed to care about the club they are playing for. That is something we very rarely see at the top level these days. I contiunued watching the Hammers as well as watching as many Chins home and away fixtures as I could. I thoroughly enjoyed last season watching Hornchurch and myself, Lord and others had some truely memorable days.

This season is pretty much the same. Still have my season ticket at West Ham and still watch the Chins as much as possible. It has now got to the point where I enjoy watching the Chins more! It has nothing to do with success, more to do with the attitude of the players and the fact that we always seem to have a good laugh and beer!!

Football in the top flight has changed. I would say that 80% of the players do not care a jot what team they play for, just the pay cheque each week. There is no passion anymore and that has rubbed off on the supporters in general, hence crap atmospheres at most games. I was lucky enough to have been around during the terrace days at Upton Park and will always cherish the electric atmospheres that were generated under the lights on a big night. Those nights will never be repeated.
