The highlight of the game for me was on the fifth or sixth lap of the ground with Sophie when the Redditch fans started chanting at me "he does what he's told..." Certainly raised a smile

My view 7 or 8 players were either carrying knocks or were not fully fit due to illness or prior injury and it showed. Ryan Parsons on the bench was injured, Oscar Betts is a young lad, Short has had an injury and Thomas has had niggles so we weren't really blessed with options to change things.

We were given a bit of a lesson really

Redditch certainly taught us one about taking your chances.

We've got a great bunch of lads, good managers and our luck on the injury front has to turn....

Like it or not,our team let 7 goals past them and we can't blame injuries on everything.

Most of us fans want to see a spirited performance regardless of winning or losing but yesterday we didn't get one, which cannot be acceptable.

Credit where credit's due,Redditch played very well but we made them look like champions elect, which they are not.

I hope when we play them again in our away match,we go at them with all guns blazing to prove we're a better side than we showed yesterday.

ok injuries play a big part but surely the team that were put out today although not maybe the managers first choices were first team players its not like they were a bunch of kids or new players I think the injury excuse is wearing a bit thin !!!!!!

I agree with Cornish, you can blame injuries all you like but the players who were in yesterday's squad should have been capable of putting in a better performance than the one that was dished up.

I think all areas of our game broke down yesterday.

When the ball reached our forwards, it didn't stick and was given away by either poor control or a fancy flick that went astray.

Our midfield constantly gave the ball away and struggled to make any impact on the game.

I thought Adam Cash did well first half and formed a good partnership with Dobbo down the left flank but the rest of our defending was woeful.

Redditch looked a decent team but on the day they were ably assisted by a really abysmal Slough performance.

Since when did football become an exact science? Nothing can be taken for granted and results like yesterday happen to most teams from time to time. Stating the bleedin obvious but the trick is not to repeat it too often. Looking in from the outside there appears to be a good attitude and team spirit between the players and management and I'm sure we can continue to draw on that and become an established club at this level. Really looking forward to the rest of the season.

I don't agree major surgery is needed. The same players have showed they can be up to task.Only two games ago people were saying we were worldbeaters.

Let's be realistic,we are only a quarter of the way through the season and as much as 1-7 is a terrible result,Slough didn't get any luck either, with Johnny Dyer's early incurred injury and the rub of the green.

We were also missing Reece Yorke, who's been a rock at the heart of the defence and Ryan Parsons, who is one of the most experienced players in our team and an astute player.

Also when/if Ed Smith hits form,he and Johnny Dyer make things happen and link our play, which was sadly missing today.

Redditch are a good side but on any other day,we have a team that will run them close or even beat them.So let's not go over the top and be so despairing..

Oi imposter! What have you done with the real 3spirit?  lol

The problem is Warren that we can go to Weymouth and achieve a very respectful 3-2 and 2-1 at Poole, but then a few weeks later at home get turned over 1-7.

If it was Poole or Weymouth hammering us I would expect that as part of being the new boys to this league.

It was also the way in which we bent over and took it, we even provided the Vaseline, that was disappointing.

On a positive, the crowd did not get on the players backs as they could see this would not help.

I do have to question some of the other posts on this thread for naming players - it is for the management to address the individuals.

Thought provoking and charmingly put Clive

To add to my last posting, yesterday we were crying out for a player not afraid to get stuck in and put himself about. In the same mould as a Darren Wilkinson type of player.A roll up their sleeves/never say die type of character.Unfortunately we never got one!

We have one, unfortunately he's only available 3 months of the season.

You raise some interesting points,RR. Agree about the strikers with the exception of Johnny Dyer who got that untimely injury.

I was critical of Adam Cornell's input, while talking to my mate at the game yesterday,I know it's not his natural game but when he came on,with 10-15 minutes to go of the first half, I was hoping that he would,at the very least, chase and close down players for that amount of time, as he was fresh legged but he never tried this and the first half passed him by.

At the start of the second half,he did our best forward move of the game by turning his marker and shooting into the side netting. After that I forgot he was on there!

Darryl Thomas's introduction faired no better. He now looks short of confidence and seemed at a loss to impose himself on this game.

Don't think you can knock Scott Harris's willingness to try and have a go but yesterday's match he had a game to forget up front.

His cameo part as a defender was the highlight.

The biggest plus points for me against Redditch was Jake Parsons all round game.Thought he was easily our best player on the day. Also that of Adam Cash who looked a real prospect and someone who could be quite versatile to our squad,if we had a chance of getting him from Margate, for a period of time.

I was talking to their manager after the game and he told me that this game was the first time for a long time he could pick most of his strongest players due to a spate of mass injuries. He also said that he wasn't that concerned about their league position being so low, as he knew that when he started getting his strongest team playing again, they would start climbing to where they should belong.

Having a game where (nearly) everyone has an off day at the same time happens, especially when you are not at 100% fitness, and if it wasn't for Jake making a few class saves it could have beaten the Wimbledon score line.

However....

That game is now gone, and the players and management will be dissecting this, and THEY will each be trying to make sure that they learn from this one off.

Onwards to the next game, and to continue what has so far been a good season, even considering all the injuries.

We are the team that has just been promoted, and are currently mid table, so, yes, to me that is so far a good season.

Apologies to Adam Cornell,as in the second half he also had another chance to score, which had slipped my memory! From where I was standing, couldn't tell if it was a good save or a bad miss but least it was a good chance.

Anyway, the game is over and done with, now, and so time to focus on the games ahead.

Morning all.

Definitely not looking to re-open any debates this morning (as I would much prefer that we look forward now) but just wanted add a couple of things from my side.

Firstly, and to re-iterate what I said in my interview, I want to thank everyone who clapped us off the pitch on Saturday. I certainly didn't feel any of us deserved that after that performance but that little show of support meant a lot to me and demonstrated that despite your obvious frustration with what you had seen you will were still behind us.

As a manager to see a performance like that, just 10 days after a brilliant performance and win at Corby, full of commitment and quality, is pretty hard to get your head round. Yes we were missing a few again but 8 of Saturday's starting eleven also started at Corby and 2 more of them (Tom and Knighty) had come off the bench in that game to play a part with the only newcomer on Saturday being Adam Cash. That inconsistency concerns me but I also believe it's minor tweaks that are needed and not major surgery. This is no different to last year where we improved the squad throughout the season in order to get where we needed to be and we will do the same this season, I have no doubts about that.

Last year we finished 5th in the Southern Central so let's not get carried away with our expectations in the Southern Premier. Bakes and I are as ambitious and positive as anyone and our aim has been to stay as close to 5th place this season as possible just in case we can massively over-achieve and threaten that position again after Christmas. Only time will tell whether that ambition is unrealistic but we will continue to aim for it until it becomes impossible.

I don't have a problem with any of the comments on here regarding Saturday. It's only natural that some of you will react more negatively than others and that's fine by me. We lost 7-1 to a side who started the day in the bottom half and that is totally unacceptable, no matter how well they played on the day.

Losing like that hurts a manager more than anyone, trust me, and since 5pm on Saturday I have thought of nothing else other than what went wrong and what we need to do to improve. Bakes and I have had a number of conversations already and will continue to do so this week as we always do. Despite what we saw on Saturday we both have a huge amount of faith in the group of lads that we have here but that is not 'blind faith' and if we need to make a few big decisions then we will do so, like we did last year, but we won't be panicking.

We have some new injury issues for tomorrow and won't be risking anyone if we can help it as Saturday is the priority but it's about time we won a cup game and for me this game takes on a real importance now as it gives us a chance to get the Redditch game out of our system quickly.
