Our Wonderful N.H.S.

[color:"blue"] I note from Halifax Lass's question, under 'Nothing Has Changed' that topics of conversation in the pub have lapsed, so I thought I'd throw my four pennyworth into the public bar.

As some of you may know, my last operation, booked for October was cancelled at the last moment because some speeding motorcyclist took my bed after deciding to demolish a crash barrier on the M.25.

As I type, I am supposed to be going into hospital for the re-booked operation. I phoned, as requested, at 11:30 am this morning to check bed availability. "Sorry," I was told, "No bed available at this time. Please stay by a phone until 6:00 o'clock this evening"

Under new Government guide-lines, if this op. gets cancelled, and then the next, they have to pull me in as a private patient !

Would I have had this trouble if I'd just arrived in this country on a cross-channel ferry claiming asylum, I ask myself ?

One wonders why one pays National Insurance !!!

Big J R you deserve private treatment after all that F**king about, if only to re-coup the thousands paid in by yourself in National insurance contributions. It appears the only way of receiving any fast medical treatment these days is by saying the magic words "BUPA".

Regarding road tax, put it on the price of petrol. This would have the effect of those who use most petrol pay most tax. Also disbanding all those DVLA departments who must spend countless hours and millions of pounds collecting the stuff.

BJR, I would imagine that an asylum seeker straight off a ferry would be assessed on the same basis as you. To differentiate on the grounds of race or nationality would be illegal and immoral.

The scandal is that there is no bed for you, despite the bleatings of politicians (all parties) about how much extra cash they've put into the NHS and how all their wonderful reforms are going to or have transformed the service. One suspects that the multiple layers of incompetent bureacratic administrators are at the bottom of this.

Private medical care is fine if you can afford it and require a lucrative fast in and out op. Not so good if you have a chronic long term ailment - no profit in that. Of course all the doctors moonlighting in the private sector are not available on the NHS wards. How about asking them to repay a proportion of their training costs from all monies earned in the private sector?

Oh yes, and PFI? Don't make me laugh. The best way to produce a shoddy expensive building that does not meet its brief.

Matrix, not a bad wheeze, but I would still prefer to see the principle of costs for all forms of transport shared equally by all (as with healthcare and education) rather than payment on use. Thus everyone pays according to their abilty to pay. A flat rate, like the old poll tax, actually penalises the less well off and benefits the more wealthy. The road tax licence seems a reasonable way to achieve this.

I know it's difficult for you youngsters to concentrate for very long, but do try to pay attention, Happy.

I was babbling about what I think SHOULD be the case, not what IS the case.

"Motorists" are an easy tax target for governments as almost everyone is a car owner and/or driver, and there is in practice very little choice these days - a car of some sort is no longer a luxury in the UK. Hypocritically, these taxes (including company cars) are dressed up and presented as being environmental measures. But what viable alternatives are offered? None, and at the same time foreign car manufacturers are encouraged and subsidised to come to the UK.

Well, I'm back home with my left wrist and hand encased in plaster and tightly bound. (Kinky, or what ??)

Operation went well, but I find typing with one hand bl**dy tedious and tiring !

I will paste in any funny's I receive in the 'Laughter Lounge', coz that's relatively easy !

Have a look at the 'Anagrams'. I thought they were brilliant !!

John.

christ you bloody pinkos never give up do ya....sod all that equality lark....

send all the skint merchants down the mines and onto the farms and building sites.....for a proper days work at a fiver a day ....give 'em all push bikes and let the really inventive creators ie; those that run things.....cream the dosh in...

if they aint up to it let 'em starve and if they aint fit enough put 'em in nursing homes run by the state and paid for from foreign aid....

untax the rich and let all cars with BIG engines leather seats and chauffeurs ride the roads for nothing...no poll tax on million pound mansions....no vat on luxury yachts and call girls....

offshore companies should get major cash injections for more tax avoidance advice and overseas villas should be state subsidised for captains of industry...tax the little man into penury to pay for the capitalist neccessities....

its about time this country started looking after its inspirational leaders.......

change now before its all too late.... <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I always knew you were a kindly, compassionate caring soul at heart Unc! You're slipping - you said GIVE them all push bikes! Surely you mean SELL them bikes?

Really inventive creators - would that include double glazing salesmen, then?

I would go a tad further - never mind VAT, how about call girls on the NHS? It would do me the world of good, for sure.
