3spirit
Know I'm slightly late on this topic! While I'm not surprised that he was let go,as he is rather lightweight, I think with the injuries our side keep sustaining this season,I think we may have been a bit hasty in our decision to make him surplus to requirements. I would rather have seen him being loaned out. George's performance's have been sporadic in terms of the industry and work rate, that all our other midfielder's provide [and Bakes and Under's seem to look for] but his attacking link play has been good and given a bit more belief in his abilities,in time I thought he could be useful player for us. With Luke Knight and Adrian Sear both coming back from bad injuries, which will take time to get over,a young player like George is useful to the squad especially in our attacking play but not necessarily in a 4-4-2. We've given time to other players to prove their mettle ie Dobbo,George Short,Seb Castello but did we give George Frift enough time? What do others think? Neil Baker
For a start Stuart it would help if you got his name right Myself and Jon are not in the game for stringing lads along, and we both felt he was not going to make it in our squad, Dobbo was a lad we went out specifically to sign (and more than knew he would provide the goods as I told you privately pre season), George was one we knew what he can do, and Seb is someone we like but needs experience, and is the type of lad that can get that at CCL level. George is not in that category, in that he has been at a conference club and would not want to go down to that level, if we are 100% honest if it had not been for the injuries we sustained pre season to Luke Knight and Warren Harris we would not have even been on the look out for a couple more players (i.e Alex Witham and George Frith) but because of these injuries these lads got their chances, but did not quite take them in our view. You mention he is probably not right for us in a 4 4 2, and that is our view exactly, and as our most favoured formation, which we play in 85-90% of our games, then we need players that do fit into that system. We went in to yesterdays game thinking we were in a really strong position, but then we get 2 injuries before kick off, which juggles the side around, then we pick up 3 during the game, plus a few niggles... cant be helped not foreseen. Would help if I spelt his surname right ! Thanks for your honest, forthright view,Neil. Not looking to step on your toes over this issue! Just my unusual view of the situation. You and Jon have to make the decisions you believe are right to how your team is set it up and functions.I agree with you that George Frith isn't good enough for your's or mine, first eleven choice, but I view him as good player to have in the squad as an attacking/link player and certainly worth a place on the bench. Though, you know how much he's earning and we may be able to find a cheaper alternative. Obviously, the wheels fell off yesterday but heigh-ho these things happen. Not a game to be overly worried about,on the scheme of how our season is going. Neil Baker
Actually don't think the wheels fell off in any shape or form yesterday Stuart, we should have won the game: Chances I can remember, Johnnie Dyer header, Scott Harris goal disallowed for offside, Reece Yorke header second half, Scott Harris when slipped in, Dobbo shot that went across the goal line, Darryls goal that was classed as offside, hitting crossbar from Dobbo free kick, 2 penalty shouts, and numerous amounts of other chances that if had fallen for us could have led to a goal. What I would say is the lads legs were heavy after 2 incredibly tough shifts they have put in, but they still worked hard (and didn't give anything up), and we did most of the pushing, yes I felt they had some chances early on, and as we were chasing the game, but in reality we were the team taking it to them. It was one of those days that you get in football... we have seen them at every level, and as we have already said we have no divine right to win any game, my personal view that if the game had been played in a similar vein 10 times, we would have probably won it 7 or 8 times. I felt Arlesey defended very well, and fair play to them for that, plus they played on the break to good effect. Not stepping on my toes Stuart you know me well enough by now, however you know we will always back our decisions made, and also explain them to you, which I think you guys all appreciate. As you say we know our players and we make no snap decisions, any decision we make we feel is of benefit for the club/team etc.. how many people were lambasting our decision to release Ollie Burgess last year, when in reality we made the right call for the team. As you mention as a season overall we have found our feet at this level, and have been competitive in every game, and that was our aim... anything above that this season will be a huge bonus. RebelDelaney
Stuart like you say it not easy to go to all the games but if you want entertainment while doing the house work ho ho. Then listen to Rebels Radio and you will get a real insight about the team and of the game as well as having a good laugh with John and Ade. Then you can make a more informed comment. I was at the game yesterday and i cannot describe the game any better than Neil has but we should of got a least one pen and i still don.t know why Darryls goal was not given. Reading Rebel
Darryl's goal never off side. For most off sides, especially the marginal ones, you have to be in line to see it. Some people I heard talking said that the ball struck an opposition defender before it got to Darryl which meant he was on side. As far as i'm aware, it doesn't matter if the ball strikes an opposing player, it's when the ball is first kicked determines whether the receiving player is offside or not. Chris
Where did George Frith go to out of interest? Thought it was to a side in the SLD1C?

Neil Baker
Chris he has not officially signed for the club in question, so is not our position to say I am afraid.

RebelDelaney,I do listen to Rebel Radio when I can. Very good it is,too. Although followed Twitter yesterday. I like to run a few questions by the forum,as you get an unbiased view from a supporters angle, of how players have played. Also trust the opinions of many of the Slough following, that I have come to know and respect, yourself included. So hence my asking about Luke Knight.
3spirit
PS When I said the wheels came off,it was mean't as a quick quip/expression.Not an observation of the game.Just a passing remark about Slough losing to the bottom placed team in the league. Happens to the best of sides whatever the division.
