zorba
I promised that I would get to a second game this season and this was it. Unfortunately i chose a game played in torrential rain throughout. The Gate dominated the first half (see Don's photos) and only resolute Bury defence and the woodwork kept the score at 0-0. Then, ten minutes before half time, the Bury CB got sent-off for a double footed tackle, the Gate scored two quick scruffy goals and Bury were awarded a penalty which Nikki Bull saved easily and then bravely blocked the follow-up . The second half was a curious affair as it was difficult to see that Bury were down to 10-men, and to everyone's surprise, they scored a pearler of a goal - a curling shot which gave the Gate keeper no chance. Bury pressed for an equaliser but Bull made an excellent save to protect the Gate's lead. Finally, a goal by Barry cogan from a fine cross and a poachers goal from Prior at the end made the game safe. My MOM? Freddie Brown was excellent in defence and always gave an attacking option, playing the simple ball well. A player with a future in football. Lastly, a comment about the Gate's black labrador mascot, who behaved impeccably throughout the game, like all our other supporters. She would have liked to have joined us in a half-time hamburger and pint, if she had been allowed. Strangely, she is banned from the Maidstone ground for some inexplicable reason - maybe they worry that she will burst their only ball! Well done Margate, and well done all the supporters who made the long trip in terrible weather.
dflman
The journey wasn't too bad. It started raining hard more or less as we pulled up at their ground and stopped almost as the final whistle blew and those on the west side of the coach were blinded by the sun on the way back until we got to Dartford. Finney the dog was lovely as usual. Oh and we won
michael
Not there-so can't comment on specifics, but the more i think about it (and i think about it alot ) the better it gets. seems that the score may have flattered a bit,but regardless-a job was done-no simple process. team was a bit 'makeshift-not entirely - and strong anyway-but again-did a job. also proved that it can win in poor conditions-weather can be a leveller-that was overcome. they had ten men-does not always make it easier-overcome that. i think that's a very creditable result-will be interested to hear what TB thinks. very important to go into a small break from the league(two wins needed in the cup games inbetween) with a win under the belt to take just a small bit of pressure off the next-hendon-league game. well done
