A Rebel and a Saint
Following our attempt to get out into the community at the Observatory shopping centre the other weekend, we have discussed ways to make it better and we're going to do it again. The booked dates are Saturday 1st November and Sunday 2nd November. While we appreciate that most people will head to Margate on the 1st, anyone who isn't and can offer to run the stall, it would be much appreciated. Should we end up cancelling that, we've booked the 2nd all day anyway. This time we are going to make it more visual, with match highlights (I hope) on a laptop, and a tombola style competition offering free tickets and STFC shop prizes, and more club colours on display with balloons and shirts hanging around. We will also be offering the information on the youth setup that was the most popular thing last time, as well as the Club, academy, the Trust and myfootballclub. I believe that a family we gave a pair of free tickets to on our last day turned up to the game yesterday, who knows they may come back. I've also contacted our 'spot the ball' competition winners who seem pleased to have won 2 pairs of tickets, so hopefully we will see them at a game in future too. We will need volunteers to help us run it, so please get in touch if you'd like to help - particularly if you are not going to Margate on the Saturday and can do it then. Thanks. (Can we trade this for the other thread pinned at the top please)
A Rebel and a Saint
Still looking for people to volunteer to help us out on the above weekend. Anyone not going to Margate with a free Saturday, please let me know if you're willing to run it. Most of the energies will be focused on the Sunday as hopefully more people will be available. We need people not just to run the stall and hand out fixture lists but also to bring children/grandchildren to have a go at our competitions to help us draw in some of the shoppers. Please come forward if you can, don't just leave it to the usual people. This is about helping your club to promote itself in its own community. A Rebel and a Saint
So we have 6 days til the event, here's an update: I've ordered helium for the balloons that Mike had at home, it's on it's way, along with buying the banners that have been on display at most home games over the last couple of months, and creating the fixture leaflets that MyFC contributed to the cost of. I've also purchased coloured balls and a basket for a lucky dip to attract kids and parents to the stall. We also have Gary's spot the ball competition too. Sue is providing us with a bag of club merchandise to either sell or use as prizes. Kay has been providing excellent support to me in getting this event booked and organised and will be bringing leaflets, youth team coach info and free tickets to games. Paul from MyFC has lent us a projector and screen from his work to screen the 25minute goals compilation that Laurence the cameraman kindly put together for free. Scarlett will also be promoting our community efforts using a powerpoint of the history of STST charity sponsored walks. Along with myself, Kay (plus maybe an assortment of children), Mike, Alan, Ollie, Mark44, Mark Hunter, RTyler01 and Adrian have all offered any time that they have so that we can be there from around 10am to set up before the shops open hopefully until around 4pm. Everything is pretty much ready to go, apart from the bit where we could do with a few more volunteers to help us hand out leaflets and run the competitions. If you can offer even an hour or two, please come forward and help the club, the youth setup, academy and trust to promote themselves in the community. A Rebel and a Saint
Thanks to those who came along today to help out. Ollie, Mike, Alan, Mark, Adrian, Mark and Kay all did a great job of keeping the stall running all day with me. We ended up buying an extra 4 canisters of helium because of the high demand for the STFC balloons. We were also giving away 20 pairs of free tickets along with hats and scarves, and sweets as well. We also had our article from the non league paper about yesterday on display. We should be in this week's Express and Observer too. Thanks again everyone. We might do it one more time this season, then hit the carnivals next summer ahead of the new season.

A Rebel and a Saint
For those that haven't seen on Facebook, Twitter or our STST website, four of us will be representing the Club tonight at the National Citizen Service graduation at the West Wing. Myself, Kay, Gary and Ollie will be going down there to this community event for a 45 minute promotion event before the ceremony. It will be attended by around 50 young people who have taken part in the scheme which builds various life skills and focuses on community benefit, and their parents. We're going to run a prediction competition while we're there with the prize being a season ticket, and give out plenty of free tickets to matches. For more info on the event you can go to our website www.sloughtownsupporterstrust.co.uk
A Rebel and a Saint
Following our presence at the NCS event on Friday night, we have had a winner from the people that attended the event. It came down to a draw between one of the young people from the NCS and the Mayor of Slough (who kindly posed for a photo with a Slough shirt) who both predicted yesterdays score. Hopefully you can also get something in the locals about the money presented to the charities. Every bit of good news in the papers about STFC all helps for the prospects of getting a ground back in Slough.
