Fixtures

Recommended Posts

You were at home on Saturday 11th October to Edgware Town but your County Cup tie takes preference the Edgware game is scheduled for midweek in November.

The reason lack of midweek games is clubs do not want blank Saturday's if possible hence I tried to ensure every Saturday started off with as many games as possible.

Division One fixtures were a nightmare this season due to clubs ground sharing with other leagues and then Bedford, Edgware and Winslow unable to play at home for thee first month so it meant more jiggling in order to get as many clubs playing on the Saturdays in August.

Unable for first month so we end up away for best part of three? F*cking groundshares!! Get your own grounds before entering the league. Got to say the fixture computer has not been kind, seems we have got far and away worst of it. Then the kicker the last four games all away. Will have a lot of home games when weather turns which could cause problems.

  • 3 weeks later...

Winslow United have not had a home SML League Division 1 game this season yet. Indeed last Saturday saw both teams playing away, and guess what next Saturday both teams are

due to play away again.

It will see Winslow having played 8 consecutive 1stX1 league games away. The pitch at Winslow is often exceptionally heavy if we get a prolonged rain.

The lack of Saturday football activity has knock on effects regarding the Club House andlack of custom.

The Reserve team has suffered, 3 home games being postponed in the SML already when teams cannot raise a team. Next weeks B&B FA Junior Cup has I understand already been postponed.

The League has given them midweek Reserve fixtures, but most players like Saturday afternoon football. Floodlit football costs money. Players like Saturday football and this has led to an exodus of players.

I understand your frustration. Our reserves have opened with 6 home league/cup games. As they play on a 3G pitch, you would have thought to save some home games for when the bad weather comes, as apart from snow, the games will be on.

There is alot of unrest at the moment with many clubs.

The first team were due to be at home on Saturday 11th October however due to the club's success in the County Cup the game with Edgware Town had to be postponed. And following Saturday's success in the County Cup you lose another home first team game (Southall) on a Saturday in November.

FA Vase and County Cup draws led to away games during the opening two weeks of September.

Again given that if the club had been successful in the FA Vase they would have had an away tie on the 4th October.

Yes the club has been unfortunate in that two home games for the reserves on Saturdays were called off due to opponents unable to field a side.

Karen I don't think you should take this as a personal attack. You are doing s tough job very well but Winslow must also look out for their own interests and raise any concerns even if we had been at home that was only 1 game.

Give me no ground-shares, no Saturday Cup competitions (both FA and County) and no cricket then everyone will have their perfect season

Again I repeat don't take it as an attack, I reitterate you are doing a tough job very well and understand the difficulties. Nobody is expecting a perfect season, however if the league are unable or unwilling to understand or point of view that is worrying. none of the Herts based clubs ever seem to find themselves in this type of position, we are facing an uphill battle for survival this season as it stands and with the fixtures it seems the odds are stacked even more heavily against us. Nobody from our end is being unreasonable or 'having a go' merely setting out the facts of our very unfortunate position which is no fault of our own and the negative effects we have to deal with and it seems nobody is even willing to at the very least acknowledge that.

Does it matter where Winslow play this season?

What do you think? Revenue on match days on Saturdays travel costs, etc.. So yes of course it matters.... Oh wait you were being a comedian cos we are struggling this season, excellent stuff. Where's your next gig?

I agree though GIVE ME NO GROUNDSHARES!!!

WB - whilst I get where you are coming from, some of us have to groundshare as we have no other choice.  Should we be denied the opportunity to progress up the football ladder because our local authority won't help us build a ground of our own?  Would you be satisfied with staying at the same level because your ground won't allow you to go any further?  We'd love to have our own facility and generate money through a clubhouse like teams such as yourselves, but at this current moment in time we don't have that luxury.  With regards to your point about Herts clubs, maybe we were one of those that missed the boat.  Out of 24 home games last season, I believe we only played six in the league at home on a Saturday, so I understand your frustrations.  I wouldn't want to do Karen's job though.

Agreed as I have said unenviable job done well and some people are bound to be upset, does that mean they should say nothing? What happened to your ground?

No, everyone is entitled to their opinion, I was just given you a view from the other side of the fence that's all.  The old club folded in 2001 as it owed HMRC and other creditors lots of money.  The owner of Hitchin Town FC then bought the lease and turned it into a 3G facility (where our Reserves currently play).  Unfortunately there was too much animosity between the two clubs at the time to come to an agreement that could see the old club carry on.  I was in my teens when the old club went under, so don't know the full ins and outs, but that's the gist of it.

No one from the old club is involved with the new incarnation, but it has been a 10-year slog just to get to step six (which is why I wasn't overly happy with the Edgware arrival straight in at Step 6, but lets not go there again! ;-) - again nothing against the Club - good luck to them!).  The long term aim is to be back in Baldock, but when that will happen, if ever, remains to be seen.  We are playing you Saturday - are you coming up??

Long hard slog and I sympathise, I vaguely remember old baldock and there was a lot of money being thrown around as for example with Aylesbury United and Buckingham town and all find themselves outside of their home town and essentially groundless. Not your fault of course, here's hoping you will get back in town and a home ground. Unfortunately I am required to work this sat and also got a game at Sheffield Utd on Sunday buzzing for that just hope to come through injury free, so won't be anywhere nearby. Another long tough afternoon in store for us, hopefully get same starting XI out as against Mursley and compete as best we can. I really hope to get to some games soon.

Side note, can never understand the level of animosity between groups of people who essentially share the same passion that results in clubs not progressing or in some circumstances disappearing, real shame.

Saw you had a decent result in the cup on Saturday, so hopefully that will give you a platform to build on (just hope you start building it after playing us on Saturday ;-))  We are certainly not unbeatable, but we are a match for most in the division when we play well.  We played some really good stuff at Amersham Saturday by all accounts.

With regards to your side note, I couldn't agree more.
