On another thread, you commented that Premiership Referees were making life 'hard' for SSMFL referees, by allowing, for example, David De Gea to wear a different coloured undershirt, and allowing both keepers in a game to play in the same coloured shirt. You made reference to your colleagues (in the SSMFL) being 'marked down' (by the Assessor) if they allowed either of these to happen. I have no doubt that your comments about SSMFL referees (and assessors) is factually correct.

Therefore, if you were the referee, what would you do if both keepers had only had identical shirts (say green which were easily distinguishable from the two sides, which were playing in red and yellow) but their only 'change of shirts' meant that they would clash with their opponents. Would you play the game (and get 'marked down' by the Assessor) or refuse to allow the game to go ahead - explaining the situation to the SSMFL?

In your example, the game would commence.

This is covered in Law 4.

"If the jerseys of the two goalkeepers are the same colour and neither has
another jersey to change into, the referee allows play to begin."

This would be pointed out to the Assessor in the de-brief.

At our level of the game, match officials can only wear black jerseys so any colour jersey (black or similer) worn by players cannot clash.

In the Community Shield, the Arsenal goalkeeper and Referee both wore black jerseys. At that level the Referee could and should have changed along with his Assistant Referees.

I've seen refs at our level wearing that horrid greenish kind of shirt. Is it a directive that they have to wear black then??

You have to wear black at our level.

Players cannot wear black or any dark colour that clashes with the match officials kit.

I couldn't help noticing the other week at Underhill that you had changed your running style, it looks more normal now

Seriously though your previous style was quite laughable the way you held your flag out in front of you when you ran rather than down by your side

I'm getting tips on how to run a line by Rhodes.

:(

I was quite surprised that you never fell over the way you ran before, I had never seen a style like it in over fifty years of watching football

Jimmy Hill managed to run the line normally when he was parachuted into that Arsenal v Liverpool game at Highbury all those years ago

No, not at all, each to their own, all I'm saying is that when I saw you at Underhill earlier this month you had changed your old 'indomitable' style since the last time I saw you
