Scottish Referendum

Recommended Posts

I've had my say on another thread.

Personally, I don't care other than to say if they do vote YES, they are committing political suicide.

If they vote Yes I think it will take maybe 5 or 6 years before we realise what a good deal rUK got out of it.

The Scots people that I have spoken to all believe that it's economic suicide for Scotland to vote yes.

As these are mainly business people then I would again make the point that I believe that Alex Salmond and the rest of the SNP haven't really thought through the consequences of independence.

The problem with politics today is that far too many people vote with their pockets in mind, and compassion, decency and peace are forgotten.

Indeed - then we will see many move south of the border.

The only decision I need to make is do I transfer money into my EU / USA bank accounts in case of a fall in the pound by 10%+ in the event of a yes vote!!

If it is a no vote the pound will probably go up, but not by 10%

If the pound devalues it would make our exports cheaper and would create more jobs, which is not such a bad thing.

Either way there will be a huge backlash. Division in Scotland with a nearly straight down the middle vote will leave communities and even families divided. rUK will be demanding that the promises made to the No voters should mean that Cameron goes, Scottish MPs take no future part in rUK matters.

Tomorrow will bring a run on the Pound. Either way this referendum will cost the whole of the UK billions.

The Sottish population is just 8% of the whole UK. Just 4% will have caused this. 3 million of these skirt wearing dicks demanding their own way will have brought this country to the edge.

What exports?

We import far more - cost of many items will increase - food, oil, transport, cars, white goods the list goes on.

Petrol prices have already increased this week, thank to the Scottish due to the weakened pound. This will only go up further. Expect 4 to 5p per litre if the pound goes down by 10%.

Inflation will then rise

Many of our exports are only 'built' or 'made' here. Many of the components are imported.

I honestly believe the whole referendum thing has been blown up out of all proportion to reality, and whatever the final outcome things will remain pretty much the same for the majority of us. If the final outcome is yes, the Scots will get the left of centre government they crave, and we will be stuck with the Tories until they implode through their own arrogance and stupidity. If the Scots make a success of Independence, as I believe they could, then it will send a message to us down south that a leftish administration really can work.

They'll be broke within a year, two at most.

I really think that the SNP haven't thought this out properly - They believe that the streets will be paved with Black Gold and their economy will boom as a result.

It's simply not going to happen.

England is easily the strongest country in the UK and I think that Scotland will regret not being part of UK with the benefits that the rest of the union offers.

They have the democratic right to decide for themselves though, it's up to the people of Scotland.

For me personally, I just want this over with

The trouble is... that it's not just going to be over. The referendum is just a vote on their intention to divorce.

The Divorce itself is going to get very messy. Who gets what, who owes what etc etc.

Worse still is that the No vote unfortunately thanks to our bumbling politicians on all sides is going to be just as bad. Having offered the keys to the bank vault how do we feel that England, Wales and NI are going to react.

Starting tomorrow night when some pubs have licenses to stay open through the vote results if the result is No we are going to see some extreme violence and anyone who had displayed a NO poster in their windows will be calling the glazier out on Friday morning.

Agree on the 'divorce' as you call it -  there's already arguments over use of currency before any vote has taken place and that's just one of many issues that will arise.

Agree on violence as well - We've already seen some aggression from the yes camp.

The establishment media circus has reported aggression from the yes camp, but the saintly "better together mob", who almost exclusively voted in favour of illegal wars and mass murder are as white as the driven snow. I am becoming more sceptical by the minute with the BBC and the so called free press.
