Grays came back quickly – Sam Mott held a dangerous cross from the left, whilst a shot from Jamie Guy dipped late and clipped the bar before going over. Grays again threatened when a Bourne free kick was cleared up the field to Joe Benjamin, whose run at goal was thwarted by a timely Alex Bentley tackle as he was about to shoot. Hornchurch had a worrying moment when Sam Mott field to hold a free kick by Jay Siva, but he reacted quickly in gathering the loose ball. Bourne again opened up the left side and turned the ball inside to Frankie Curley, whose first time shot skidded wide of the post. When Phil Starkey gave away a free kick a few yards outside the area, Glen Little decided he did not want to wait for the referee to finish speaking to Starkey and hit the ball hard into the net, earning himself a booking in the process. When Little eventually did take the free kick, it was hit hard into the wall and cleared. George Purcell went close with a first time volley which Conor Gough touched around the post for a corner, and Bourne again provided a good centre to Luke, who directed his header wide of the goal. A Bentley free kick found Tobi Joseph, who turned sharply but out his shot over the bar, and in a similar situation shortly afterwards, again from a Bourne centre, Joseph saw his header saved by Gough. Hornchurch had a narrow escape one minute into the second half when a cross from the left was cleared off the line, and Mott saved the follow up from Jay Siva. At the other end, Gough saved well from Purcell, Joseph headed over from a Bourne corner, after Luke had headed the ball back across goal, and a Bourne solo run ended with the shot going high and over the bar. George Purcell then won a free kick as he tried to break though, which he also took, only to hit his shot high and over the bar. Joseph won another corner with a fine run in from the wing, but Purcell played the corner too short and it was comfortably cleared. Grays then had the ball in the net from a free kick, taken a few yards inside the Hornchurch half, but the whistle had already gone for offside. A good build up involving Elliot Styles and George Purcell, saw the ball played out to Bentley on the left, and his cross found Joseph, whose shot was wide of the post. On 71 minutes came the only goal of the match - Joao Carlos made a run on the left, and was fouled. Play continued until ball was half cleared and then pulled back to a free kick. Glen Little hit the free kick against the wall, but the ball was played back along the left and crossed, for Jamie Guy to force home. Junior Dadson replaced Bourne, and immediately made a good run from the left wing, which ended in a corner when a defender deflected the ball out. Moses Ashikodi and Elyon Marshall-Katung replaced Purcell and Joseph, and Marshall-Katung headed home in stoppage time, but the whistle had gone for offside. In the last few seconds home keeper Conor Gough was booked for time wasting.
