Vs Chesham

Not the game I was expecting... We had moments of brilliant football and moments of falling apart and unfortunately let chesham in! This is a game where we missed our key injured players. Long balls were never going to work with a player like Alex brown in the boxs! Ryan parsons had a great game again and nice to see sean back! Ref wasn't great seemed to let number 2 get away with everything! Oh well onwards and upwards

Worst performance for a while. Never seem to do well against Chesham and the trend continued. Thought we allowed the game to be far too comfortable for Brown and Purse, two big, experienced centre halves who do the ugly things well.

Even first half in which I felt the sides were testing each other out in poor conditions. Best chances were from set pieces and Chesham's goal before half time came from nothing.

The one time we pulled Purse out wide we created a great chance for Cornell which was well saved. The game swung in a ten minute spell where Cornell couldn't get more than a glance on a good corner routine and after Dobbo did well to isolate Purse out wide Cornell couldn't quite finish off the chance, Chesham then went straight down the other end and two in two minutes finished the game.

A good lesson and one we need to learn. We have to take our chances when on top as good sides like Chesham will. Having gone well ahead they spurned a free header and missed a pen but they could afford that having put the game to bed.

Onto the next one, COYR

Don't think it was a bad performance. I actually thought we played well at times. Just think we were taught a lesson that you need to take your chances at this level and we didn't.

Trouble was you look to the sidelines and you have 60 odd goals from last season standing next to each other in JD, Eddie & Warren Harris. If they had played the result could have been different I feel.

Nothing much in the first-half then they score and then we dominate the first 15 of the second but fail to take our chances then they score a quick two goals and it's game over.

Onto Saturday we go, if we start taking our chances at this level we will be fine.

Arguably lessons we should have learnt against Biggleswade and Hereford though, just this time we were actually punished for it.

Relatively even first half and if anything we probably just shaded it.

Conceded a sloppy goal at the end of the first half through an error of judgement.

Started the second half brightly but certainly paid the penalty for not taking the guilt edged chances that came our way.

We played OK but Chesham took the chances that came their way and we didn't which probably sums the game up nicely.

There are much sterner tests ahead and unless we start taking the chances that come our way today won't be the only time we will get punished.

Biggest plus point today was seeing Knighty make his debut.

My MOTM was Reese Yorke, solid as ever.

I thought we dominated the first half. And if he was a little more clinical Cornell should have got at least two today. However as said before purse and brown were in charge most of the game it didn't help that we spent large chunks of the second half (and some of the first) whacking aimless long balls onto their heads. However it was a result I expected and thought despite the loss we played some good football at times.

Not a great performance against the poorest Chesham side in a long time.As has been said the tactic of pumping high balls against defenders like Brown and Purse was clearly wrong from the start.....we all know we are a good side on the ground and yet we persisted in doing it. A certain striker will have nightmares about two bad misses(if they had gone in as they should have we would have gone 2-1 up and a different result may have ensued)

I know the managers can only play whoever is available but surely a change of tactics is possible whatever the team and the introduction of Darryl Thomas was maybe too late as he looked the part when he came on.

Still one defeat in six is a reasonable start and maybe there was much learning to be gained today about individuals and formations and tactics

Lets put it right for Saturday and put today down as one less than satisfactory performance

Our MOTM was probably Dobbo.............but didnt Alex Brown look just like when we had him here!!

Alex Brown looks good when the ball is pumped into the air to him, being about 6'7'' he certainly should be.

No disrespect to Brownie but I think we have 3 center backs at the club who are much better than him.

Really don't think Chesham are a good side now, which is understandable with the players they've lost, probably mid table at best.

Game of fine lines I am afraid, we should not have conceded in the first half, thought it was a poor goal at a poor time.

Second half we had 2 gilt edged chances which Ad did not take and they went up and punished us, the third killed it.

In terms of Daryll, we were hoping to start him today, but he was still not very well, and did not feel he had more than 20 minutes in him, so hands tied a bit there.

We had over 90 goals from last season standing behind us in Eddie Smith, Johnnie Dyer, Scott Harris and Warren Harris, will hurt any team, especially when you have stepped up a level.

I don't believe we were that bad over the course of the game, we certainly weren't 3 goals worse than Chesham.  We just need to take our chances when we're on top.  As said before, we dominated the first 20minutes and then let them into the game, and then came out second half and had those two great chances which we should have scored.  After that we gifted them two goals and the game was over.

Still plenty to be positive about given the start to the season relative to the number of injuries we're going through.

ARAAS, as most of the posts indicate, on actual play I think most people thing we were at least the equal of Chesham, if not the better team but it's all about taking your chances and not giving away silly goals.
