Hmmmmmmmm, i'm not too sure of my thought on this subject as i can see the point of view from both sides.

 

However, we didn't win the second world war becasue America decided to help us (as we were winning it anyway). America only joined the war because Japan started on them, by bombing pearl harbour. this is when the "great" US decided to join and fight in the war. until then they hid their heads in the sand and hoped that England and germany would have sorted out their differences before long.

never resorted to alcohol/cocaine abuse, done a runner when called up by his country, married to a murderer, done a days work in his life

in fatc how silly of me thinking that all of the above, you have gone on record, as being alien to your own ideals ok not the alcohol abuse but then you've not been on the recieving end of his drink driving

so it was ok for our ships to be bought down 5 miles off thier coast

Trafalgar Square update.

 

Not unrest yet but livening up a bit. Quite a few people making impromptu demonstrations. Socialist Worker's got its stand up in the Square. Police numbers increasing. Chopper circling ahead. Guys with guns on roofs apparently - seen one on in orange jacket (you want to put something a bit more subtle on, mate). We've been told to leave work by 4 tomorrow, with the mob expected here by about 4.30. Oh, ok then, if you insist.

there were plenty of yanks involved from day one.. if they were really not intrested then we would have been fked.. sure it was self intrest.. they could not afford to see a nazi dominated europe.. just as our relationship with them is self intrest..

the russians had no fking int in taking on the krauts.. it was a fk up by the germans to take em on without securing the western front.. without u.s support and supplies they could have taken us in 18 months

Canv is right on the WW2, but is something missing here is this an attck on Bush or America?

 

Bush was voted in by a minority on a fixed election. He is not the sharpest. Whatever his reasons for going in to Iraq, no good arguing over them now, it will make for a better Iraq. I don't really care if he's done it for oil, money or genuine goodwill, Saddams gone and the world's a better place for it. The fact a minority of Iraqis are trying to use terrorism to deter the septics, doen't mean they've done the wrong thing.

 

Bush is not all-conquering and not someone I would have voted for. But what is the point of the 'Stop the War' slogan, it's bit fking late for that.

 

The invasion and the PR around it has been messy to say the least, but they have to finish the job and it will cost, mainly american, lives. Bush is a fool, Blair not a great deal better but the Iraqi invasion was the right thing to do.

I personally believe it all boils down to self-interest. Canv has a very honest attitude when he admits that the US and Great Britain are acting in their own self-interest. My problem is still with the idea of saying one country is better or more important than another, simply because we live here. All seems too random to me - but I've said this before and been shouted down.

I don't mind people standing up for Bush if they're willing to accept that everything he does is solely for the benefit of America (and only select portions of the population at that) However, I find it infuriating when people, and papers (one in particular) try and claim that he is doing everything for the good of the whole world. Strangely enough if the US was a bit more honest and admitted everything it was up to, I might have a bit more respect for them.

I did pass Zeal! Infact i did very well in my GCSE's and if i hadn't of decided on Hospitality management as a career move, then i would have comepleted a History Degree as i love this subject!

 

Canv, i'll let you have your say on things, as i believe that my opinion is not going to be respected on this subject.
