MATCH THREAD: Slough Town v Biggleswade Town

Our midfield play was truly superb at times but we lacked that killer finish. The waders increased the pressure second half and I feel we maybe gave them a little too much respect and backed off, leading to the equaliser. I'd take 8 points from 12 in a new league, but gutting that if we could play as well for 95 minutes as we do for 90 we'd have 12 points!

I thought our midfield play was generally good when we have the ball in our possession but sometimes not as good when the opposition midfield has it ie when we need to close down and press. That said thought Jamie McClurg and George Short did a fine job to this end in the first half of the game but in the second half Biggleswade started finding a lot of space to run into in the centre of pitch.

Be nice when we can call on a fit again Luke Knight or the returning Leigh Rumbold to plug a few gaps and possibly play alongside George and Clurgy.

Have to say I cam away from last night very happy with our performance, so great play on show by both teams and well worth the entrance fee for any neutral

I have been saying that the opening 3 games would mean a bit of a false economy as they were all teams tipped for relegation so wins against them and your 3rd but actually you have played three of the teams who will struggle. However, Biggleswade I believe have an outside chance of a playoff place if they can get a run together and will be looking at top 10 the min expectation so I believe that we have now proved we can more than hold our own in this division.

I think we have some unsung heroes in our squad and one for me last night was Ryan Parsons who time and again was covering so that Dobbo could make his runs and roam a little.

Unfortunately missing the next 2 games now but cannot wait for Histon and Weymouth....COYR

Bit harsh on some of the Central Division teams, 3 Spirit

What teams like AFC Hayes,North Greenford and Leighton?!

Then there's Uxbridge,Northwood and Chalfont St Peter, teams that have good cup runs and beat the odd better side but not looking to be promoted and rather just a perennial club in the division.

I don't mean to be disrespectful to these teams,in terms of what they can offer with their teams given their support and budget but what I was trying to relay is that often Slough would struggle against such teams by being dragged down to their standard.

Whereas in the Southern Premier,Slough will need to raise their game week in week out, which in the long term can only be good for our progress.

Yes we know there are good sides in the Central division and it is certainly not easy to get out of but this season is a whole new ball game and definitely a step up in terms of quality.

Cracking game between two good sides both of  which are likely to end up in the top half of the league..................gutting that for the second successive Tuesday the last minute was the worst minute.Felt we were just the better side over 90 minutes and if we had taken chances would have nicked it................that first half save was one of the best I ever saw at this level--------their chairman told me before the game that they believed they had the best keeper in the league.

I thought that sometimes we actually tried to play too much football........short passes by the dozen which inevitably go wrong at some point.............there was one occasion when we played about 14 passes and the ball ended up where it had started and with the same player who started it ! Contrast that with the opposition who in three or four passes went from penalty area to penalty area.

Playing football in your own penalty area in the last few minutes may look nice but sometimes a  wallop into row Z (if we had one !) may be more  effective.......................................but overall a good point that should have been three.

MOTM...............several come to mind  but Ryan Parsons just shaded it for me.

What a great post,Graham.

Do you know remember, Steve Bateman nearly signed Ian Brown, keeper of Biggleswade,a few seasons ago?

He let us down at the last minute before pre- season started and went to play for a higher up team.

His save was superb and his size, presence, catching and all round ability, make's his Chairman's claim certainly credible, that he is the best goalkeeper in this league.

On your observations about Slough's passing,I agree to a point ,but prefer the team to try to play passing football than the direct, hoof the ball approach.

As you rightly point out, dithering around our own penalty box with the ball is not advisable but confidence on the ball is a must.

I think Slough's passing football is to be applauded but obviously there are some teething problems, which Bakes and Unders will have to rectify. We supporters need to be patient on this.

Better to endeavour to play good football than not, I believe.

One thing I would like to see us improve on, is invention with our free kicks and corners, as too often we play the hopeful lofted ball/cross.

Nice to see Dobbo have that long rage shot, too. We've had some cracking hotshots over the years from long range ie Mark Hawthorne,Ian Hazel,Gary Donnellan,Mark Turkington to name a few,it would be great if we could find another one.

I think the reason why we never signed Ian Brown is that he didn't have any transport so I think he had no option but to play for a more local team.

What a cracking game these two sides served up for a dissapointing crowd of only 300 on a mild august evening this shows what a real slog it is to entice more supporters to turn up and support this great club.

Both sides were allowed to express themselves and show there skills and talents the game showed what we have missed since the heady days of being in the conference.

The game was so good it must of been one of the easiest matches that the ref and his linesmen have been involved in, apart from a few feisty moments you would not of thought they were on the pitch.

BET365 obviously not impressed with our opening four matches and are offering us at 33/1 to win the league.......

I can see why based upon the teams that we've played so far and on paper have been close games.

I wouldn't mind a few bob on Redditch at 25/1 who seem to have assembled a very good team this season based upon their early results.

I hate to be that guy, but considering its our first season in the Prem, weve had a great start, lets not get too far ahead of ourselves.

Being disappointed that were 'only' 33/1 to win the league shouldnt come into it, my main aim is that we consolidate this season. We need to establish ourselves as a Premier side. Let the bookies have their odds (rightly or wrongly priced).

COYR!!!
