I haven't been back since witnessing the infamous 'toilet gate' incident of 2011/12. That's not a reference to how st mags played that night, it's reference to the fight between the fans in the toilets.

But I do like the idea of being a guest of honour. How is the atmosphere these days? I might risk the journey soon.

Big Dawg Col will probably remember it, I certainly do. Hertford against St Mags, 2012/13. A man, who was allegedly on the St Mags coaching staff, assaulted a young Hertford fan in the toilets, blood all over the poor lad as he came back into the bar. It was an awful experience all round to be honest, local kids abusing the Hertford away support, throwing ice cubes and whatever they could get their hands on at them. Think they even chucked a corner flag at one point!

I'm not wanting to re-open a very old can of worms here, but I've been a bit apprehensive about going back to st mags since then. I'm sure it's changed, but I tend to return to the clubs where I've enjoyed my experience.

Shocking.

It was 2012/13 season away at St.Mags and can confirm everything Reb stated. Wasn't as bad last season as 1) we took 4 times their gate and 2) the electricity money ran out so the clubhouse was in darkness post-game so less visibility to find solitary small blokes to punch.

Allegedly it was a member of the St.Mags coaching/recruiting staff that assaulted our chairman's nephew in the toilets post-match. I didn't see the incident myself so can't confirm this (if St Mags have legal representation) but saw said nephew emerge from the toilets with claret pouring from his nose.

I did however observe chavvy kids lobbing half-ice/half-gravel "snowballs" at the away support during the 2nd half and being egged on by both the home fans' fathers (Those who weren't appearing on Jeremy Kyle or signing on the following morning) plus the launching of a corner flag.

Can't wait for this year's friendly encounter . . .

My experience of visiting the Bury is nothing like some of the descriptions on here. Very courteous, friendly, excellent hospitality, good banter with the opposing fans.

It's funny cos the self proclaimed "best supporters in the league" quite clearly don't like it when other clubs dare throw a bit back in their direction. And whilst I don't condone any kind of violence, I'd be interested to hear the version of events from the St Mags supporter who allegedly issued the punch. Word on the street is that it wasn't without serious provocation, but that's just hearsay. Who knows what went on.

Im sure the young lad involved took comfort at full time when the Hertford players went and clapped the fans.....

I never saw the "chavy kids" that night and haven't seen them since and its pretty easy to spot people at our games as they are usually alone!

I think its fair to say the toilet gate incident was something that went on long before the game and it involved a persons private life. This came to a head at the game and thus the exchange.

I think if people have a problem with each other it needs to be addressed away from the club. Its just bad press the club doesn't need.

I know for a fact our committee work as hard as possible to make people feel welcome at the club and I think they are doing a good job.

Jonno

Thanks for the kind words, I would say you were our biggest rivals in the local area and the games I've watched between our sides have been very well contested but never a hint of trouble.

Funny how only trouble I've ever seen between fans at SSML games have involved Hertford!  Must admit the Edgware Gavin incident was hilarious... (Whoops that was Ryman at the time but both SSML now)

From the second Pablo Ardilles made the switch something like that incident was always going to happen between the two sides though. Reminds me alittle of when Mo Johnson signed for Rangers and just fueled the Old firm rivalry that bit more. Shocking thing to happen to that poor lad at just a game of football, really did hit home with us at Sun as our transitional period has been nothing but getting away from that sort of behaviour that seems to be accepted there over the past years.

I look forward to a trip to Hertford to meet there fans! been many years since i've even been to the ground. Prehaps the last time was a Herts charity shield game or something when we disposed of a top Hatfield team at the time, not sure if they were ground sharing there or just the one off game?

You'll be made to feel very welcome at Hertford Town. We're a passionate and loud bunch of fans but we're nice people really despite what our rivals say! We banter with players and oppo fans (if any show up) but it's meant well and we give a good welcome pre and post match. Make yourself known if you plan a visit and we'll look after you.

Think this thread is drifting off topic - let's move on from past issues and concentrate on the thread the FA Cup game on Sunday

The headmistress has spoken ...

As an FA Cup based question Karen i do hope this is within topic content code - Any word on Kenna's groin injury for tomorrow? Will we see "the hair bear" (as he's known down the essex arms) play against Hadley?

Pushing us back in the correct direct does anyone know much about Halstead?

Started season well and should finish top 6 div 1 of ECL

Used to be a decent prem side with a decent following but fallen on hard times of late.

Pitch not the best and they will give you a decent game but would be surprised if you don't win by 2 clear goals.

Nice part of the world for a Sunday day out!.
