Loose
A suspected suicide the comic and actor has been found dead at his home. Said to have been suffering from depression. The New York Times has a quite comprehensive obituary http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/12/movies/robin-williams-oscar-winning-comedian-dies-at-63.html?_r=0 Rest in Peace. cup of tea
A great shame - and a fantastic performance in Good Will Hunting RIP
missunderstood
Incredibly talented and funny guy. I thought his performance in "Good Morning Vietnam" was his greatest ever. RIP to the greatest comedy actor of his generation.
Rhodes
Yes, a real bolt out of the blue this morning on hearing the news, probably only Jim Carrey could touch him as the best 'zany' comedy actor. RIP.
Big J R
Latest reports indicate he had recently been diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease . I have to agree with missunderstood..... 'Good Morning Vietnam' was his pinnacle.
cup of tea
Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of his comedy. Good Morning Vietnam was a great film but I still prefer his performance as a straight actor in Good Will Hunting which I think was his best movie performance. He should have done a lot more non comedy roles.
Big J R
He proved a point, coming from TV comedian, to stand-up comedian and then straight acting. Not many have managed that. R.I.P. Robin.
Rhodes
What surprised me was that apparently Williams had serious money issues which was instrumental in his sad suicide, it's hard to believe that he didn't have two ha'penny's to rub together isn't it, presumably he knew people in the film business who would just hand him a million pounds in loose pocket change if need be. I don't know if you had read elsewhere that he'd been incredibly generous with his own money in helping people. Quite a few stories if you search, unfortunately I'm just off out. I wonder whether he cared more about others than he did for himself.

Big J R
Again, a very very sad loss. I'm not particularly fond of US comedians, but Robin was miles above the rest.

Rhodes
"I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up alone, it's not, the worst thing in life is to end up with people that make you feel all alone". - Robin Williams
Big J R
Apart from Jim Carrey and Jack Black you mean I didn't, but I accept your comment. Jim Carrey is just a touch too vulgar for my taste in American humour. Robin Williams had far better timing and delivery. He didn't need to throw the humour at you. M.A.S.H. is another great example of great US humour with a message. Alan Alda has to be one of the greatest living American comedic actors. Loose
Richard Pryor and Robin Williams always gave me the impression that they were naturally funny all the time, on stage and off it, probably unable to stop being funny in any company. That they would bring non stop tears to the eyes, bellyaching laughter. I'm not so sure that Jim Carrey - admittedly very very funny - is of the same mould, a bit more manufactured but still hugely entertaining on the screen. Loose
Mind, I'm a big fan of Mike Myers who apprenticed on Saturday Night Live. Heard a brilliant interview the other day, if I can find it again I'll post a link in case anyone is interested and has an hour and a half to spare! Rhodes
I see that Robin Williams out of the blue suicide could have been triggered by a rare form of dementia that causes hallucinations. Court documents have shown that the great man was suffering from a brain disorder, Lewy Body Dimentia, associated with Parkinsons disease which allegedly led him to hang himself at his California home in August aged just 63. Sufferers often get severe side effects from medication including hallucinations and problems with their attention span and alertness, this would have no doubt had an effect on Williams ability to act and consider future film roles and he possibly felt he had no other option but to end it all. Rhodes
Yes, I saw that, it's really sad when families squabble over the pickings when somebody dies, famous and wealthy or otherwise, my now departed dad fell out with his family when one of his elderly aunt's died and left him some money yet he was always the one who went to visit her come rain or shine and they never lifted a finger: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2937079/Robin-Williams-widow-Susan-Schneider-three-children-legal-battle-personal-property.html
