Burnham v Slough

Recommended Posts

George Short's interception was absolutely brilliant as the Burnham player was unmarked and the goal was gaping. Game could have gone either way in those last 10 mins as Yorke cleared off the line and Harris missed a good chance. Thought the game swung our way after the Thomas substitution .

Well pleased with that! Any result at the Gore is a good one on recent seasons and I think we were good value for our 2 nil today. George Short was my man of the match although there were several excellent performances - the back four were very good today and Daryl Thomas looks to be something a bit different up front for us. Very pleased with the result and some of the football we played. COYR!

2 very scary moments where it looked like Burnham may have equalised late on in the game but other than that we kept them very quiet.

with 2 new players in defence it was a worry but the understanding seemed very good and we kept them pretty quiet

nervy and cagey game at times but always thought we had more about us. as time went on looked more and more likely to be 0-0 or a mistake would give the winning goal but great finish from Dyer

with them coming at us trying to equalise was very impressed with the speed of Thomas who could be a huge player for us when we are looking to counter. after we wasted 2 late chances on the break great composure by captain Mcclurg to take his time and pick out Jake Parsons to wrap it up

not a phenomenal performance but every player gave it their all and on a pitch where the glass was quite long everyone put in a good performance

from what i saw today very positive that we can at least hold our own at this level with the squad we have and the 5 or 6 still to come back

We deservedly got the three points today although the game,at times, still felt very much like a pre-season one.

Both sides will obviously need to improve but Slough will be much the happier team tonight,as Burnham were pretty ordinary,at best.

Thought George Short,James Dobson and Johnny Dyer had decent games today, though no Slough player was bad.

Bakes and Unders deserve credit for getting the substitutions spot on,too.

Don't think Burnham were bad, more like we were just that much better. You can only play as good as the opposition let you.

Some good performances with the back line looking solid, in particular Guy Hollis and Reese Yorke.

Alex Witham started nervously but got better and better as the game progressed.

I could mention most of the players having decent games but the stand-out player for me was George Short, best game I've seen him play play in a rebels shirt with a near perfect performance.

Well done to Darryl Thomas, a promising debut considering he's just joined us and I don't think he's played any games in pre-season and only had two training sessions.

COYR!!

Burnham just brought their pre-season form to the first league match.Hence another loss. They will get better, though,as Gary Meakin is a good manager IMO.

I thought Burnham played to the best of their ability.

On the other hand I think we can only get better with some class players, in the wings, just waiting to get their chance.

Don't do preseason as consider it to be largely meaningless. All about fitness and match practice rather than results. So today was my first look at the new players and must say I was very impressed. Thought they all had solid games and add a bit extra to the squad. When you think we have Knight, Foulser, rumbold, Fraser, Smith and Wazza to come back into the squad we have a lot more strength in depth. Have a very poor record at Burnham in recent times so great to get three points.

Thought Mcclurg was superb, fantastic performance and well deserving of the armband.

Unfortunately I couldn't go today but was following on Twitter and was so pleased to read we had won as Burnham is always a hard place to get a result whatever league/form they're in. Sounds like the new boys all put in a good shift and with more training and games together can only improve. Most people predict Burnham will struggle this year but even so we did a professional job on them and without our top scorer, captain (and arguably our best defender), multi award winning winger plus a couple of other regular starters. So it all bodes well and looking forward to following Tuesdays game on Twitter.

A continuation on the progress of preseason and a solid and structured performance, impressed with Moran and also Thomas - look like 2 good pick ups.

There will be tougher games but we have enough to hold our own in this league and will cause problems for some of the alleged big teams.

I thought the higher you went up the leagues the refs got better?

Also where were the 453 quoted on the attendance?

Before any criticises the referee for booking three of our players they were all fully justified! Great value for the win and I thought all of the new players fitted in well. Excellent to start with 3 points and a clean sheet for Somers!! :-)

Sorry Ian totally disagree with you, 1) there was 4 booking. Why do you think McClurg should of got booked.

Firstly perfect tackle (as it ended with a throw-in) according to the ref. The Burnham player had James in a headlock. So what did James do wrong to get booked?

BUT SAYING THAT As there was an assessor, I think the Ref had a good game.

One thing I did notice was that 32 goals were scored in the Premier League yesterday but only 7 of them in the first half. Was this down to tiredness or well drilled defences.

if so we are going to have to be patient and NOT start having a go at player like yesterday after 2 minutes. As a lot of us heard on the way around to be behind the goal.

Forgot to say NO draws and twice as many away win as home  (8-4)

Great result at a ground we have done poorly at recently, sorry Ian but feel dobson's wasn't even a foul let alone a yellow. If mcclurgs was a yellow the guy that rolled over him flailing his arms should have been a red.

Talking about Dobson, how bloody good was he yesterday?!

Mom of match for me. Mcclurg, Moran and Witham also had stormers. Also feel George short played one of his best games yesterday for us and was dominant throughout with almost faultless passing.

Adopting an aggressive attitude. Guaranteed yellow. The tackle was fine hence the throw-in. If you're going to allow players to wrestle without taking action then you're on a slippery slope.

Marcus - as I mentioned on a previous post I didn't see Dobson get carded so can't pass comment on that one. The others were easy decisions for the referee, albeit I thought overall he allowed Burnham a bit more latitude than Slough.

Didn't think mcclurg instigated anything (although the ref was a lot closer) he put In a very strong fair tackle and their player seemed to roll over him. However did feel ref had a reasonable game although more seemed to go against us than for us 50/50 wise, but that could just be my non neutral perspective.

First time for many years that I have attended a Slough game but both my son and I will be coming to a few more. Thought Yorke was man of the match for Slough followed by McClurg then Short. Overall I think Slough will do well in this league as the players get fitter.
