Burnham v Slough

Recommended Posts

I agree with Mark44.

Burnham are now made up of quite a few ex SYCOB players who did the double over us fairly comfortably last season, so anyone who thinks it should be a nailed on 3 points I would say are sadly mistaken.

With the local rivalry and our record at Burnham I'd say it's probably one of the worst games to have as our initiation into the Southern Premier.

actually i think as usual RR you are forecasting doom and gloom, i think that burnham are going to have a fight on there hands with so many players from div 1 from a team that did not get promoted i think it is they that should be worried.,

Just a bit of realism HR for anyone who thinks Burnham will be an easy 3 points.

On paper,it should be an evenly contested match, with both teams having good players and good managers,so should be a battle for 3 points.

If pre-season counts for anything [which many of us long time footie fans know, means nothing] Slough should be slight favourites, given the way both teams ended the season and pre-season form, but this is skewed somewhat with the players we have out,so it's certainly a tight call.

A Slough win would be great and a draw totally acceptable and even if we lose, not the end of the world,as last season proved. Though I do think, it would be a big bonus to pick up early points for the season ahead.

On to the Slough squad,I think centre midfield is looking a hell of a lot stronger than we had last season and we have great competition for places. The wings we have cover for but big loss not having Wazza.

Big year for our 4 forwards to prove themselves in this division. We're not lucky with who we can pick from, for our opener.

In terms of our defence,I think having a strong centre midfield can only be a good thing but I am a touch concerned that, if things don't go the way we want them to go,we will miss the leadership of an experienced old hand that we had in Dave Woozley and nearly had with Gary McDonald.

Let's hope this problem doesn't materialise.

Guy Hollis and Reece Yorke are going to have their work cut out this season and each will need to be at the top of their game and they will need to build a rapport between them quickly.

To me Guy Hollis was an unsung hero of the team last season but we will need him to step up to the plate big time in this current one,as he definitely has skipper potential but can be somewhat quiet at times. Communication between him and Reece and the other defenders will be vital.

Let's hope for a solid defence and bang a few goals in the Burnham net for a Slough victory on Saturday ! COYR !

I think it's imperative that Guy Hollis and Reese Yorke strike up an understanding and sharpish. They are both very good players but are similar in that they both seem to be a bit quiet and not natural talkers.

I think we will learn very quickly if this will be a problem or not.

RR, what would your team be for Saturday, given injuries and players unavailability/suspensions?

Sounds like Tom Moran could be starting at right back,by what Neil said on the squad news thread unless there's a surprise in store.

If you insist 3spirit   ;)

Sommers

Moran  Hollis  Yorke  Parsons

Witham  McClurg  Frith  Dobbo

Dyer  ?

Subs

Short, Costello, Scott Harris, Cornell, Edwards

Picked George Frith before George Short because he played very well against Leatherhead and IMO deserves his place in the starting 11 based on that performance.

What about Jake Parsons? At least worth a place on the bench.

My team for Burnham game would start the game in a 4-1-3-2 formation  but change to a 4-4-2 second half,if things aren't going to plan ! ha ha!

             Sommers

Moran Hollis Yorke  R.Parsons

             Edwards

     Frithe McClurg Dobson

           Dyer Witham

Subs: J.Parsons,S.Harris,Short,Sear,loan signing[if there is one] or whoever else is half fit !

I'm pretty certain Jake Parsons is still injured and Adrian Seer is on holiday.

If the loan signing comes in he will obviously be starting the game.

Jake Parsons is back from holiday and returns to training tonight. I know he's done some running while he's been away and he's confident that he has recovered from the 'tackle' at Marlow and can be involved at Burnham.

Adam Cornell is doubtful as his injury flared up again in training on Thursday but we'll see what he is able to do in training this week. Scott Harris gets his MRI scan results at 3pm today and we hope to involve him in full training for the first time tonight.

We have another new face with us at training tonight and hope this could be an option for the weekend but will provide an update on this when we name the squad at the end of the week.

Unders, can I ask, is this new player the same forward you were trying to get on loan?

No the loan move didn't work out as the club involved needed to keep their player in the end.

The new player is a free agent who actually relocated to Wokingham yesterday with his job having been based in the Nottingham area where he played in Evo Stik Northern Premier League (also step 3). He was recommended to us by a friend of his who we came up against last season, James Jepson at Kettering, and comes highly recommended.

He will train twice with us this week and we will see how that goes.

Knighty is progressing well from a slight tear in his groin. He did some light training Thursday and Saturday and will look to step it up gradually this week.

Obviously he is suspended for Saturday but the aim is very much to have him in the squad for the trip to Hereford.

Did I miss something? Suspended?
