"Windsor 0 Spelthorne Sports 1 (Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier)

Adm. £6 Prog. £2 Att. 180 est.
What an awful game for my first game of the season. If I see many more games like this, I will watch Rugby Union most Saturdays.
I had planned to go to Barnton, but severe weather warnings and the long walk from Northwich put me off.
This was my third visit to Stag Meadow for 3 different clubs. Still a very nice ground, but they could clean up all the bird sh*t in the stand.
As for the game. It was a poor advert for the league. The goal was the only shot (or rather header) on target. We had weak refereeing, bad fouls, a long injury to the home keeper, players swearing at the referee and trying to get opposition players sent off and even a fake scream from a player who was barely touched. He got up straight away, when he realised all he would get is a free kick. What we didn't get was anything resembling football.
Twice Spelthorne players kicked out at Windsor players. Both times they were lectured and given a yellow card instead of a red.
Windsor did have the ball in the net after some sloppy defending deep into injury time. But the referee saw a foul. I suspect this was because a Spelthorne player was lying prostrate on the ground. He got up with a big grin on his face, when his team got the free kick. There was still time for a Windsor player to get a second yellow card. "

As a groundhopper myself, these sort of reports really annoy me.

The majority of these people, and I know many of them, believe that we are just all there for their benefit. Most have never supported a club or have any idea what sort of work goes into it. They turn up, moan at you if the programmes are sold out, or if the real ale is off in the bar, never buy raffle or golden goal / fund raising tickets and wander round making judgement on the whole place as if they believe they are related to Judith Chalmers and that people are hanging on their every word (which they're not). They carry no accountability or responsibility but can trash a club's reputation if someone else sees it and passes that information on.

Comments relating to the stand are unnecessary. Windsor's ground is very nice, but this idiot's views could well stop others from visiting because they could conclude from it that the whole ground must be run down, which of course it isn't. I'd prefer that he watched rugby Union too.

I've calmed down now!

Epsom won 2-0 at Farnham and although I've seen us play better in pre-season, we lost here last year whereas this time we rarely looked like conceding and got the job done.

I believe Farnham need a striker badly. Their build up play was decent and on balance were worth a goal, but I don't know who will score it for them.

The match report is here at the newly official Epsom & Ewell FC Club Website:

You are so right Rich. Every club needs the hoppers as they bring welcome revenue, but the couple I've spoken to before talk a load of nonsense. What is the secrecy thing all about as well?!

The worst one of the lot is in the Non League Paper - just slates everything!

Smudge will of course be along shortly to moan about how Windsor always blame the officials when they lose.

Lazy Sod you didn't mention the disallowed goal - I guess the ref saw something we didn't.

And the bloody time wasting. Every team does it but as soon as Spelthorne scored their goal it was like they were in slow motion at times. Taking throws, goal kicks etc.... OMG.

And the ref never said a word.

Lazarczuk again showed his stupidity and petulance in getting a 2nd yellow for a terrible foul but it was brought about by the intense frustration of the incompetence of the ref, I am sure of that.

Rother what has happened to the Windsor Forum, i cant seem to post on it any more?

I was going to comment on the game from a neutral's point of view, but it wont let me!

The gentlemans comments are what he saw,he gave a report on what he saw did he not? Most of it backed up by Rother and Mal and Lazy Sod in there comments.Bet you a fiver that as we speak someone is cleaning them seats in the stand, because as he said Windsor is not only a Nice Ground, but the best in CCL.Maybe they were unaware of a problem.

To be fair there is quite a lot of pigeon crap on the seats in the main stand but I just find one with none on

Hoppers give themselves a bad name sometimes by slating a ground without realising how tight finances are for most non league clubs at this level, plus a lack of willing helpers. Maybe everyone who goes should take a cloth and cleaner and do their particular seat

I will be popping over there tomorrow and hopefully the game will be a bit better than Saturdays appears to have been

I assume that due to lack of activity on there in the recent reorganisation Ian decided there was little point maintaining it so all Windsor stuff is now within the main CCL Forum here.

In reality our post match discussions happen on Facebook which is a bit of a shame because it means good people like yourself can't pop in and contribute.

Modern times eh? Modern times.

Anyway, what did you think of the match?

I should imagine you didn't recognise it as the same team that faced Slough in the friendly last month. I sure as hell didn't anyway!

I thought Windsor played some nice football, but lacked a cutting edge up front. One of

your guys mentioned that the centre forward (Kane Jones?) was being played out of position

(on the right wing). I know Mick Woodham personally and I think he will sort it out and

you will still be up there this season. Hope to pop over again soon as my brother is a

Windsor fan (divided family loyalties).

Good. Micky has a habit of playing our centre forwards on the Right Wing. I'm sure he has his reasons but it does seem a little odd.

He played Ben Harris wide right a lot. Kane Jones played there on Saturday.

Jones also played there against Slough the other week and scored twice - when he went off that day his replacement was Dan Molloy, another CF and consistent goal scorer and he played him in same position.

Rob Lazarczuk scores a good number of goals but to play him in centre of attack is another odd move. I am being polite, if truth be told I think it's f/ing madness but there you go, what do I know?! :)

Hope to see all that resolved tonight.

The issue with the pigeon mess won't be sorted very quickly as you have to get specialist companies in to remove the stuff due to the fact that breathing in the dust when it's cleaned up can cause some very serious health issues.

People at the club have volunteered to do it but have been instructed by the club not to for the reasons stated above.

Needless to say these 'specialists' don't come cheap and aren't willing to do deals to support community sports clubs so I'm afraid people will just have to find themselves a poo-free seat until such time as we can afford it and get it scheduled in.

I should add though that of the 300+ seats available we're talking no more than 40/50 that are effected - on the other hand maybe if we charged £1 to sit in the stand like they do at some clubs we could raise the funds for the cleaners to come in [in about 10 years ! LOL].

Reading up on Pigeon Mess, many people quote that it is a myth regarding, getting illness's from it.Probably started by the Specialist Companies themselves,so as to charge a fortune for their services. All that is needed is gloves, scraper, hard brush,Diluted Bleach/disinfectant/water solution, overalls, and a hat case they crap on your head, and a face mask if you want. You can dispose of the mess in the Wheelie Bin,but it is said that it is a good fertiliser.

It is not a myth.  Six years ago I caught Cryptococcus and was seriously ill.  You haven't heard of this?  No it is rare but it comes from breathing in bird shite, especially pigeons. I was off work for six months, my lungs are permanently damaged and exercise is difficult.  Before I had this I would have laughed at the prospect.  Now I am a little wiser and a bit more careful.

As a professional pest controller of many years I can tell you it is NOT a myth regarding diseases associated with pigeon fouling. Pigeon droppings can carry many different diseases and viruses as well as causing damage to buildings. Just from a Health ad Safety point of view, if someone slipped on the fouling then they would be in their rights to bring a legal case for compensation against the club. Please don't take this on a damming of the Windsor ground as I actually think it is a nice place and the people and facilities are good. I was at the game on Saturday and witnessed the mess in the stand, it does need cleaning and more to the point proofing against pigeons. It is being used as a roost by some feral pigeons and that is what is causing the problem, the underside of the roof needs netting to prevent pigeons gaining access and the inside ledges need pigeon proof spikes applied. This of course does not come cheap and neither does clearing up the asociated fouling. I would like to offer the following advice to Windsor if they decide to deal with the problem using volunteers. Firstly contact a company such as SX environmental supplies tel 0800 0851 451 and purchase some ornikil. This is a biguanide concentrate that can be mixed in a sprayer at the recommended dose rate and the pigeon droppings and foulings should be sprayed before any attempt to remove them. It is not expensive and highly recommended. Let the spray dry and then ensure every helper wears at least a dust mask, coveralls and rubber gloves. The droppings can be collected using a spade and scrapers and put into stout bin liners. regarding disposal, the laws are changing al the time now and pigeon droppings can be classed as hazardous waste and I would confirm this with your local authority prior to putting them in the dustbin !!!! A stiff scrubbing brush and some wet ornikil solution can then be used to scrub stubborn areas before hosing down. Once the droppings have been removed I would recommend a further spray with ornikil and wiping each seat clean to complete the sanitizing of the area. Ideally at the same time a bird proofing net should be fitted to the underside of the roof to prevent further activity. Again this can be purchased through SX. It will save a lot of money doing this yourself, however you will most likely need some advice along the way which I am quite happy to offer free of charge to help your situation.Having said all the above, please do not take this as a crticism of the Windsor ground, just purely an observation and hopefully some helpful advice to help the club. It is not in anyway the clubs fault that the pigeons have decided to cause them a problem !! It is a fact of life and a pest control matter that could happen to any club at any time. Please let me know if you need some advice and I will be more than happy to talk to anyone at the club.
