Junior Luke made a good solo run from the half way line on five minutes, and opened up the home defence, only for his shot to be directed straight at Tim Roberts. Roberts was in action a minute later, when he tipped a shot from Martin Tuohy over the bar. Tobi Joseph moved neatly on to a pass from Phil Starkey, and Roberts made an excellent save to turn the goal bound shot away for a corner. Shortly afterwards, Martin Tuohy chipped the ball into the middle, where Joseph headed over. Tuohy had a chance to open the scoring when he ran on to a poor back pass by Liam Friend, but his shot was well saved by Roberts. Hornchurch continued to force the pace and Tuohy headed over from a Junior Luke centre. The home side were confined to just one free kick which was held by Sam Mott. Four minutes from half time, Elliot Styles gained possession in midfield and switched play to the left with a lengthy pass to Alex Bentley, who played the ball along the left wing. Junior Dadson took up the running, cut inside and his low cross into the goalmouth was touched home by Tobi Joseph. A minute before half time Tuohy centred to Dadson, who hit his shot over the bar. Folkestone could have levelled within two minutes of the second half, when Jon Pilbeam made ground on the right, and his cross eluded everyone and went harmlessly across goal. Tom Davis made a cross field pass to Dadson, whose centre found Joseph, and Roberts did well to turn the shot around for the first of two corners. Pilbeam again found himself with room on the right and this time he ran forward but placed his shot high over the bar. The turning point came when Tobi Joseph was sent crashing to the ground by Liam Friend and was unable to continue. Elyon Marshall-Katung came on as substitute, and two further changes followed – Aaron Beckles for Tuohy and Jamie Hursit for Davis. Surprisingly the only booking came two minutes later, when Alex Bentley was booked for an innocuous tackle. Hornchurch lost their rhythm and the home side came more into the match, and they drew level when Ian Draycott fired home following a goalmouth scramble. Elliot Styles went close two minutes later with a header from a Marshall-Katung free kick. Frankie Curley opened up the home defence with a cross field pass out to Jamie Hursit, whose centre was headed home by Aaron Beckles. Folkestone again equalised, when Jordan Wright intercepted a poor cross field pass and ran forward. He crossed into the goalmouth, where Mott saved the first shot, but Ian Draycott followed up to put the ball into the net. Almost on full time Marshall-Katung broke through, but his shot was blocked and the ball spun around the post for a corner. Then followed a penalty shoot out which many of the crowd missed, as they had left at the end, not realising that this was a cup match, billed as the Sid Burvill Trophy. Jamie Hursit went first, and scored. Liam Friend scored for Folkestone. Junior Dadson was next, and his shot rebounded off the underside of the bar. Michael Everitt stepped up for Folkestone and also hit the underside of the bar. Omar Beckles put his shot high over the bar. Matt Newman scored to give the home side the lead. Elyon Marshall-Katung made the score 2-2. Sam Mott almost saved Ian Daycott’s shot, but the ball had enough pace to cross the line. Alex Bentley made no mistake to make it 3-3. Nat Blanks took the fifth penalty and scored to give Folkestone a 4-3 win.
