FA Betting Rules

Recommended Posts

http://www.thefa.com/news/governance/2014/jul/new-betting-rules-videos-010814

In case anyone is interested

In summary anyone involved in football from the Premier League down to Northern, Southern and Isthmian Premier Divisions are forbidden for making any global football related bet whatsoever through any means (phone, web, 3rd party friend).  Any breach will result in a global football ban.

For Step 5 and below the previous rule still applies ie prohibited from betting on a match or competition in which they were involved or could influence.  Any breach will not result in a global ban but sanctions will be given.

So you get your next door neighbour to place a bet for you.

Much like the horse-racing world !!

No BJR, it is quite clear that 'Participants are also not allowed to instruct any third party to place any bet on their behalf'

I know that Mal. I have a 'friend' in the gee-gee racing world who works in a yard near Epsom.

Believe you me  -  It goes on all the time, and we are talking 'big-money'.

If people want to bet illegally, they'll find a way !!

Doesn't affect me though, as gambling is one vice I DON'T have.

Hypocrites, they earn millions out of Bookies sponsorship, anything that you can bet on is bent one way or the other.

Even our gracious Queen, and the Landed Gentry, back their horses regularly, you do not hear them being banned from participating.

In fact they the bookies used to use such information to their advantage,as the Queens average bet was 2 shillings each way, when she came on the line with £2 to win a certain horse,it was nigh on a certainty to win.The thing is people who go crooked in fixing things, become greedy very quickly, and this is picked up by the bookies intelligence department.

Most football players at a lower level love their 18 team acca's,its part of the buzz, how many times after a game,do players come into the bar,the first thing they check is the Footie Results on the T.V.'OH ONE LET ME DOWN 'goes the cry. I personally think Clubs bar takings will go down through this katowing to the skint bookies

Smudge - No matter how many warnings are sent out/issued the fact remains people will still bet on sporting events - trying to stop it is like King Canute trying to stop the waves (and no I am not on the industry, sadly I am one of the governments unemployed statistics

I should add, good luck to the FA in policing this!

If the F.A. intend to police this efficiently, then money will have to be involved.

More heavier fines to cover the cost ????

I wouldn't bet on it.

And quite right too.  You're not allowed to nowadays !!

They don't need to. The bookies do it for them.

There have been loads of players banned but, to show you how seriously the FA take it, have a look at the Peter Cavanagh case. Banned for eight months and fined £3500 for allowing his brother-in-law to use his account and having Accrington Stanley, who Cavanagh played for, in a £5 accumulator.

If players at lower levels think it's worth the risk then sod them if they get caught.

I couldn't agree more.
