Dagger03
Saturday 19-July-2014 WHITSTABLE TOWN 1 HORNCHURCH 2 Whitstable - Beresford, Rigden, Wedgeworth, Hogg, Healey, Girt, Heard, Connor Hefferman, Golding, Rowland, Loynes Subs - Pulman, Mackenzie, Crimmen, Okwundinka, Woollcott, Freedman, Pettit, Wood HFC – FIRST HALF – Callum Chafer – Courtney Homans – Chris Bourne – Omer Beckles – Alex Bentley – Frankie Curley – Junior Luke – Tom Davis – Martin Tuohy – Tobi Joseph – Nahum Green HFC – SECOND HALF – Callum Chafer – Jamie Hursit (71m) – George Whitelock (64) – Omer Beckles – Junio Dadson (55) – Phil Starkey (61) – Junior Luke – Joey May (55) – Elyon Marshall-Katung (61) – Okwute Izuchukwu (78) – Elliot Styles Hornchurch played in purple / black / black Attendance 147 Scorers – Tobi Joseph 27 (H) – Tobi Joseph 40 (H) – Adam Woollcott 70 (W) On a very hot afternoon, Hornchurch quickly took control of the first half, to the extent that the home team were confined to just one shot at goal which came almost on half time when Scott Heard moved in from the right but hit his shot wide of the goal. Hornchurch had the majority of the territorial play, and could have opened the scoring when Nahum Green opened up the left side, before playing the ball back to an overlapping Chris Bourne, whose dangerous cross was turned away for a corner by Jack Healey, who was again in action shortly afterwards with a well timed tackle to thwart Martin Tuohy. Junior Luke fired in a shot from outside the area, which Mark Beresford – on temporary loan from Ramsgate – tipped over the bar, and it was Beresford who then rose high to grab Luke’s corner kick. Hornchurch forced a succession of corners as they kept up a steady pressure, though they could not find the net, until Tom Davis won the ball in midfield, moved strongly through the middle, only for his shot to be saved by Beresford. Tobi Joseph was first to react as the ball bounced loose, and he scored from close range. Whitstable had a half chance when the Hornchurch defence failed to clear a low cross into he goalmouth, but Omer Beckles eventually played the ball to safety. Davis almost put Hornchurch further ahead with a fine run and shot, which Beresford did well to tip over the bar. Hornchurch increased their lead on 40 minutes when Bourne’s corner was touched back to Green, and on to Tobi Joseph to score his second of the match. Hornchurch made only one change at half time, Elliot Styles replacing the very impressing Nahum Green, but ten minutes into the second period changes came thick and fast, and Whitstable showed more as an attacking force. Peter Wedgeworth hit a well stuck free kick narrowly over the bar, and Callum Chafer was called upon to make two good saves in quick succession, before Tom Davis went close at the other end. With Hornchurch substituting their midfield players, this gave the home side the opportunity to come back, and Adam Woollcott scored with a well placed cross cum shot from the right which eluded everyone to end up in the net. Whitstable survived a goalmouth melee, the ball eventually being cleared from off the line. In stoppage time Callum Chafer made an excellent save from Woollcott and then dived again to turn the follow up out for a corner. It was Hornchurch who had the final opportunity, in the fifth minute of stoppage time, when Jamie Hursit almost scored with a well placed shot.
