The Crowing Cockerel
"One member asked about speculation of Mark Kirby being used as a forward. George who sees Kirby as a key player for next season asserted " Kirby is a great player, he's got a lot of talent, he's big, strong, he doesn't fear his opponents and he knows how to score goals. He will offer us another dimension in attack. We will give it a try for a couple of months and see how it works out"." I can't say I'm entirely convinced by this tactical move. It strikes me that putting Kirbs up front demonstrates two things: George isn't convinced by the strikers we already have; Our play is going to become more one-dimensional - i.e. boot it up to the big lad. Now I'm not trying to denigrate the footballing genius that is Kirbs, but except for a purple patch at the beginning of the 2012-13 season, he has not proven himself to be prolific in front of goal. I also remember playing Grays away last season when the big fella couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo as several guilt-edge chances came his way. I hope George and Kirbs prove me wrong and Kirbs walks away with the golden boot come next May as ETFC stroll their way to the Conference South. However, I'm not going to wager my two-door Austin Metro on that happening. Any comments?
OldTowner
Think it is just a case of wait and see, which is more or less what George said. George also spoke about "other" options and discussions with other players. Suggest you re-post in New Year. Let's hope George is right and on this occasion, you are wrong. COYT.
