Maidenhead v Slough Town 19th July

As you all know there is a Beer Festival on at Maidenhead next Saturday, which I am sure many of you will take advantage of.

However, as a result there is NO car parking available at the ground.  This applies to players as well.

There is a car park just opposite the ground, but I believe this is only short stay and will have all of the players/officials cars in from earlier on.

Therefore I suggest that you either car share wherever possible or use the train.  The advantage of that being that you can sample more of the beer.

Does anyone know, as it is 18years since I last went to York Road and the greay cells are failing me.

Can you walk from the station via Bell Street or do I need to go round via Queens steet and then into York Road?

At my age that extra 10minutes makes a lot of differnece.

We are finally in a position to be able to announce a 15 man squad for tomorrow's game at Maidenhead. Our injury problems this week have been well documented with 5 injuries sustained in our first 2 friendlies and we are in the difficult position of being without 10 players for this game, including all 4 of our strikers and the 2 wide players who can also play up front in Warren and Sam Barratt.

We are therefore massively grateful first of all to Gordon Bartlett at Wealdstone who has agreed to lend us two very good players from his squad in Stefan Bailey, a midfielder who has played first team football at QPR, and a young striker in Jack Smith who Gordon rates highly. Both of these lads will start tomorrow.

Two other new faces in the squad tomorrow are attacking midfielder Alex Witham and a French forward who has been recommended to us who has previously been in the Nice under 19 side. Alex is someone we did actually speak to last season and very nearly signed at one point. He played for Biggleswade in the Southern Premier last season and has been training with Conference side Welling United this pre-season. Both of these lads will play the 2nd half tomorrow and we also have our youth team forward Chris Smith on the bench who trained with us last night and also Gareth Risbridger who has yet to train with us in pre-season due to work commitments.

Squad - Jake Somerville, Sean Fraser, Ryan Parsons, Guy Hollis, Reece Yorke, Gary MacDonald, Ben Edwards, Luke Knight, Stefan Bailey, James Dobson, Jack Smith, Alex Witham, Triallist, Gareth Risbridger, Chris Smith.

Obviously a tough test tomorrow but one that we are very much looking forward to and hopefully we'll see many of you over there.

Where's all the posters about today's game?  Has the beer got to them?! ha ha! I'm doing better than last week!

I enjoyed the match today even though,a few of the players were completely unknown to me.Thought Slough gave Maidenhead,a good game considering many hadn't played together.

The heat didn't help either side but both endeavoured to make the game a spectacle.

Was impressed again by Luke Knight, the man is always looking to be in the thick of the action, full credit to him for that.

Not been as impressed with Reece Yorke yet but know it's very early days for him.Not looking to be critical of him, just waiting for the sort of performance that Luke Knight is producing.

Still,we're all not expecting miracles from any new player, just a glimmer of light of things to come.

Thought Slough were a little unlucky to lose the game,as when Johnny Dyer scored his corker of a goal, thought we may have the measure of Maidenhead until they got, what looked like a soft penalty from where I was standing.

Was it a clear penalty? I viewed it from the opposite end.Seemed harsh to me.

Who was Slough's young number 12 in the 2nd half? He looked lively. He reminded me of Steve 'Thommo' Thompson in the way he ran [nothing much else like him!] but he seemed keen and tried to inject some energy into our play.

Sean Fraser put in a good stint, too IMO.

Considering first-half we had several new players; Guy & Sean playing out of position and therefore from the play-off final only Dobbo & Ryan Parsons playing in their correct positions as outfield players playing against a team from a higher division we did extremely well!

Yes we were a bit under pressure first-half kicking uphill but in the second half we were the better side.

Totally agree on Luke Knight. Going to be a top-player for us. With regards to Reece Yorke though I thought that was the best he's played for us since joining & thought he did well today.

I take it Alex Witham, was the tall dark haired player who came on in the second half? He looked useful, too.

What happened to the French triallist?

As for the French triallist he just changed his mind about coming!

They're unpredictable,the French ! ha ha!

Just to change tack slightly, not sure if this has come up, but I was trying to look at the Maidenhead United Fans Forum for info/views on the game and it's like getting in to Fort Knox. You have to register, THEN apply for access to the forum without a link to where you have to apply. Seems extremely fan-unfriendly.
