Windsor v Slough

Recommended Posts

Yes, friendly results don't mean a lot but Slough were really poor.

I expected Windsor to look very rusty and off the pace as well but we didn't.

I guess our pre-season programme is well ahead of yours. Or something.

Good luck for what lies ahead.

I think you might need it.

Rother, I thought that was your second friendly? so maybe not as rusty as you expected?

You say friendlies don't mean a lot but then you say good luck with what lies ahead because you might need it.

Do friendlies mean a lot or not?

Reading Rebel it was our second friendly but our first friendly was primarily made up of reserves, youth, triallists. Only four of our starting eleven played any part in that game, one of which was the keeper. Anyways going back to yesterday I agree with a lot on here it was obvious Slough were rusty and nothing should be read into the game, I think you'll comfortably finish mid table in the division. But, I thought the lesson yesterday was that Windsor played as a team and it looked like you played as a lot of individuals. I also think there was a large degree of complacency with a number of your players probably thinking "we're playing a combined counties team, just need to show up" particularly after some big victories last pre-season. But I hope we put to bed a myth that was often labelled at us last season from a minority of your supporters that we're just a glorified pub side. We don't pay wages at Windsor yet we have a squad of local youngsters, that want to play together and play damn good football the right way and hopefully showed there is talented players locally that just want to be given a chance and it's not all about money. Anyway, best wishes for the season.

Interesting I counted a lot more than four first team players in your squad yesterday, maybe I was wrong. I thought your 'new players' were pretty much new first team signings for your premier division campaign this season, rather than youth team or triallists. Your manager named just one trialist in his match day squad on your website. Anyway yesterday will have helped your team blow away the cobwebs and it's about peaking for the first league game. Yesterday will do your side good in the long run.

Score doesnt matter................easy to see that some of our top players were missing.

Credit to Windsor--young energetic and full of desire to win..............getting caught by the long ball was a bit of a worry as was the amount of space Windsor created for themselves.

But we know the capabilities of our team and management and dont have to worry unduly.

MOTM------Dobbo first half and Guy second half.

Still say we will be in the top half of our new league

Can anybody behind the goal say why Dennison was sent off? Looked like a bit of 50/50 for me but a red card in a friendly suggests it was more serious than that.

Generally I thought the officials were pretty poor. In the 1st half our No 11 was about 5 yards offside and he didn't flag. I run the line for my son's U16s team and you have to be asleep to miss something like that.

Your left back didn't like him at all, and in fact called him a f***ing prick when he didn't stop the ball when it went near him for a Slough throw on 2 occasions. Seemed a bit harsh!

Assistants will never stop or retrieve a ball because as soon as they do the other team will then expect them to do the same and act as ball boy. I guarantee if an assistant does that he will at some stage be accused of bias by players or supporters. Trust me, it happens.

It doesn't matter whether its a friendly or not. I didn't notice players from either side giving the assistants or referee any less grief just because it was pre-season, appealing for everything even when they know its not theirs and having a dig at the officials when they didn't get their way.

The last time a player asked me to get a ball, coincidentally at Stag Meadow for a Windsor Allied Counties game, I told him firstly you're less than half my age and second I'm an assistant ref, not your ball boy, get your own ball!

I'll guarantee that will be nowhere near the starting 11 come August. What I was saying is it was our first game as yours was tuesday, most of ours were out of position in the main parts of the field, only 1 of our 4 strikers started, 4 of them only seen the other for the first time a week or so ago. and a youth player from last year (well on verge of 1st).

But it sounds like I'm making excuses, I'm not Windsor played well with the team that has played together for a while. As our has not.

Def. punch thrown, very clear from behind the goal, only half hearted, but a punch none the less.

Seems ref gets criticised for letting stuff go and then also for acting.  Cant win.

Well played Windsor, but not going to lose any sleep over the result.

I could go into whatever the reasons for yesterday and it's implications were, but I'll keep it short.

I'm not worried. Better this happens in pre-season season and not the season proper. We have all pre-season to get match-fit and to put things right (I have every confidence in our managers to do this). If, come the end of pre-season we're still getting these sort of performances, then and only then I'll start worrying.

Matter closed.

Good to see your starting pre-season a positive note Nathan   ;)

Only an old cynic would say 'give it time'   :D
