Windsor v Slough

Recommended Posts

Just on Jake, his girlfriend due to her job is only able to go away at certain times, and this usually happens to him pre season, so nothing can be done about it, whilst we always want everyone available for every game, this is rarely ever the case, and to be honest it actually can make getting people enough minutes slightly easier.:

What I will say is that he looks to have worked very hard this summer, and is in good nick currently, and the type of holiday he is going on he will be keeping his fitness up whilst away.

Thanks for that Bakes.

Bit more re-assured now as regards to Jakes fitness.

As 3spirit says, If Jake is over his knee problems and gets himself fit and sharp, I think he could be a big player for us this season.

3 spirit: come and join us at the King and Castle: you know it makes sense.

Tempting offer,Nigel but I don't like to drink before games,as these days I would miss most of the match by spending a lot of time in the bog! :)

Going to do a bit of a pub crawl after the match,as plenty of pubs to enjoy in Windsor.See you at the game tomorrow and perhaps we could get a beer or two in together in evening on route.

If not,I'll have a couple with you at the Maidenhead Beer Fest next week.

An interesting point,Rebel1965. I do think Slough Town FC suffers from the negative image the town has as a whole.

Not many people across the country view Slough as a wonderful place. Shaking off the negative perceptions is no easy task.

Windsor connection to being a royal town must make attracting sponsorship somewhat easier ie prestige.

Not sure it's all or partly to do with a negative image.

I'm sure there are lots of towns similar Slough, whose football clubs manage to get a decent amount of corporate sponsorship.

The over-riding factor IMO is that most of them have their own ground in their home town.

On the same subject, I don't know if Paul Lillywhite has managed to secure any sponsorship but if he did would we get to keep all of the sponsorship money if it was in the form of an advertising board?

Good to hear Jake is looking sharp. A fit Jake Parsons will be an asset this season.

Neil, when you say Jake and his girlfriend are on holiday, working on his fitness, you're not on about his bedroom exercises, are you? LOL !

That's got to be the best reply from u ever!!!!

I don't think it's from the lack of trying but Slough Town FC,regardless of having a home ground or not, have never achieved much in the way of great sponsors.Even when we were in the Conference,we failed to get companies to stump up much.

Takes Mars for instance,a chocolate manufacturer known throughout the land and based in Slough and yet paltry in it's donations to the club over the years,as far as I know.

Perhaps we should have approached Cadbury's,when they didn't want to know !

Now that Dulux have been taken over by Dutch company Azko Nobel and Holland and Louis Van Gaal are in the spotlight due to the World Cup and Manchester United respectively.

Maybe a small sponsorship of the town they manufacture their paint in,would be a good way for them and us, to strike a deal,if someone with marketing expertise from the club, was to approach them. It would be peanuts to them but would be of huge value to the club.

If they don't want to know we should approach other paint companies !

You never know until you try.

Sorry to go off thread !

Regarding the sponsorship, for a global company like Mars, what's the incentive for them? Even for a few hundred pounds, they won't get much back from it. How many support our existing sponsors on a regular basis? By dropping in to existing sponsors and adding we've seen their advert in a slough programme or similar, we can help boost the marketing appeal of the club. Without linked contacts in the larger companies who can negotiate deals internally for us, I'd say we are better off targeting the local companies. Why not contact Beaconsfield companies too?

it was quite clear that it was the first time that some of the players had played together.

have to agree that luke knight looked good and he was probably one of the new signing who has made links with the current team.

Tom moran looked quite good aswell I would say.

Regarding Windsor; Tony Thompson will help to give Windsor a boost as he will work the players very hard and they will become much better as a result. (he used to be my PE teacher not long ago so I can tell you this from experience)
Also liked the Windsor free kick and wondered if we can use that ourselves.

Lots of new players in the 2nd half for Windsor as well.

I don't think any of the subs had played for us before (excl Tuesday's friendly).

Tony Thompson was with us last year. Most games he is shouting instructions all through the game which gets on my wick to be honest. When he stays quiet, like he did today, we generally play better. At least, that's my impression!

By the way re Jake's fitness, he could barely raise a gallop during the final 20 so I think he's left plenty to work on (as they say in horse racing)!
