Billy the Cat saves the day!

Recommended Posts

Real Roy of Rovers Stuff today.

Town turned-up at Basildon without a goalkeeper and still beat Basildon convincingly.

The mood in the bar was strangely subdued as the word went round that we didn’t have a keeper.

“How the **** did that happen?” And “Please tell me this is not happening?”

Billy Cove had kindly agreed to step in a save the day and so he did with a lot of skill and a big thank you to Billy for doing a good job in the Town goal.

Man of the match for the town!

must admit, got to the ground, and was greeted with such bad news (chopper hope u get ovet the flu quickly) and said to my driver (AH) let's just go home.

Expected to get stuffed; but team and ETFC support played their part in securing a great win.

no voice; but plenty of hope!

Billy has to be man of the match

One home supporter tried to spoil my day by casually remarking that Ilford and Concord had won 4-0 and 5-0 respectively as I passed him by in my ETFC hat. As we now know, both sides dropped points and so what was a resigned acceptance of no gain was a wahey! in the Basildon bar.

Who was our supporter pinching the players food?

The players were living it up on the coach home!

Great day for all involved. Well done the players for bouncing back from last Saturday. Who's next?

Some unexpected points dropped today by Ilford and Concord and a great win for the Town. The title race is wide open - Sawbo have entered the fray after their excellent win at Concord. Our narrow victory at their place looks invaluable.

Yes you are right Sawbo are contenders now and will want revenge for the lucky win at their place so we are not out of the woods yet but this feels like another of those turning points and championships are won and lost on the sort of spirit we displayed today. Not home and dry by any means but still in close contention.

Jim certainly used his get out of Jail free card today without passing go but lets hope we don't have repeat oversight during the Christmas period!
