Another hard fought victory and well done to Braintree who are the first team to score against us in over 1000 minutes of football.

 

We took the lead after 10 minutes. Vinnie John harried a defender and won the ball from close to the byeline and managed to get it across to Lloyd Opara who scored into the empty net with the goalkeeper committed to stopping the earlier cross. 6 minutes later Vinnie John had a good effort blocked after a good run into the box from John Martin, and shortly after Opara had another couple of good chances - one he hit into the side-netting from a John Keeling cross and one he side-footed across goal and wide. Towards the end of the half Daniel Gay saved well from a Dean Parratt 20 yard free kick, after which Steve West headed against the bar from a Mark Graham cross.

 

In the second half John and Opara had early chances but Braintree went up the other end 3 minutes after the restart and scored through Allan Crosby who found the net from the tightest of angles. We were back in front 12 minutes later when a Graham corner headed goalwards was deflected in by John Martin. The game went a bit flat for a while with Braintree having some good possession but we scored out third in the 83rd minute when Steve West wrongfooted a defender and struck home from 12 yards. With a few minutes to go Lloyd Opara broke swiftly into the area and crossed the ball for John who with the goal at his mercy blasted over the bar.

 

Line-up:- Gay, Gooding, Kerrigan, Adedeji, West, Locke (Southon 70), Keeling, J Martin, John (Allen 86), Opara, Graham. Subs not used:- Douglas, Rowland, Collier (GK)

Great day out, loads of Chins up there, reckon we had nearly 100. Great support lads! Good as well you can sup a pint during the game, quite p*ss by the time I got home.

 

Urchin Boy, saw your lot there, drum and all. How comes Urchin Man never comes on here no more?
