Today's game

I do not consider I am qualified to give my opinion on how we should be playing, but please just stop and think. Shrewsbury have only their football to contend with - no full time jobs to cope with. They were very quick and very good, and doubtless some of our players were very tired after the physical and emotional strains of our cup activities. Some of us as supporters were nearly comatosed after the penalty shoot out against Exeter. Think of the money the team have generated within the club through these amazing performances. Maybe they have helped the club survive! We were so obviously in need of a 'miracle'. To single out players for blame achieves nothing at all, in fact quite the opposite, and very simple to do when not face to face. I wonder why we perform better away from home. Could it be the level of support those TRUE supporters who travel give to the team? Unfortunately, I think at times we are victims of our own success as a club. We were promoted into the Conference against all the odds and completely unexpectedly and it has been a very hard grind financially. Please moaners don't complain too much about us to your mates. We will never increase our support if you do.

Some very bizarre team selections for today's game! Why was Walshe on the bench for so long? when clearly Drury was struggling to do anything. Perkins looked out of touch all day, Matt Lee was being regulary beaten by thier number 11, all I hope is that Rob Owen did'nt go off through injury. What was that subsitution all about towards the end, our only threat of a goal playing that long ball style of game was going to come from a nod on or down by Haworth, then Fordy takes him off and brings on another centre half when we are 2-0 down. Surly Abbey who had down sweet FA all day and was consistantly ten to twenty yards away from every ball Haworth won should have been taken off much earlier. We must start competing with teams like this, not sitting back saying "we were out classed". We can beat them as proven by our performances against both Chester and Exeter this season. We need to get away from that Ryman league long ball game and start passing it around more!!

My thoughts on Saturdays game:

Both Duku and Moore played like Ryman league defenders. Francis form worries me, he is nothing like the player we had 2 seasons ago and despite his size seems weak in the air. Shearer needs to go straight back in the team.

Matt Lee was torn apart. Their no.11 was class although Matt Lee has been superb this season for us.

Above all we only know how to play one type of football, the long punt upto the big center forward. When Walshe came into the side we looked good, goals were coming from crosses and Rob was on fire. You cant blame Rob or Ben as the service was pathetic on Sat. We need to get Drury playing in the middle in Perkins position. I cant see what Steve Perkins gives to the team after his impressive debut, he's been played all over the pitch by Andy and his error for the 3rd was inexcusible. He needs to be dropped. I actually felt and i may be in the minority that we missed little Pat Gradley. At the Exeter game when he came on he was superb and he has a great engine with an eye for goal.

Matt Davison on Radio Kent said he'd heard the rumours of strikers we were going in for.. Id like to know who they are as i havent a clue !

Whilst I agree with a fair amount of what has been, said and totally agree with Vera, that we should try and keep our moans in-house.

The lads I am sure have been told by both Andy and Ade that they were pretty awful on Saturday.

We had an excellent crowd, numbers up and what do we do.???

But I am more disappointed that we could not get a coach load to Tamworth, I can only hope that most of the one's who failed to book a seat are driving up under there own steam.

The last thing the lads will need on Saturday is no support. How can we have so many fickle supporters at one club.

I heard a rumour that we were in talks with Mark Stein?

Problems however as he is doing some sort of course quite a few miles away and wouldn't be able to train - along with the wages scenario, of course.....

.....pure speculation I guess?

I think the £800 a week he apparently earnt at D&R and the fact that we would have to fork out a sizeable chunk of it in any loan deal may be a bit of a fly in the ointment laugh.gif

Of course though....... I could (and in fact often am )be very, very wrong!

I don't quite know what you mean by 'that Ryman league long ball game'. In our championship-winning season we tended to overcome teams by playing passing football. It's only since our promotion that we have started to hoof it long a lot more - probably because we are often frightened of the higher-class opposition.
