A new ground - mobilising and organising ourselves

It is my understanding that the best way to mobilise and organise ourselves and attempt to apply pressure on the local Council with regard to providing adequate facilities for Slough Town Football Club in the Slough Borough is by means of a 'petition', as defined in Slough Borough Council's Constitution, Article 18:-

http://www.slough.gov.uk/moderngov/documents/s29448/Article%2018%20Petitions%20Scheme%202013.pdf

In brief what we will need to do is:-

1. Appoint someone as our Petition Organiser

2. Provide a clear and concise statement covering the subject and stating what action the petitioners wish the Council to take

3. Acquire 1,500 signatures on the petition (including name, address and signature), from people who verifiably live, work or study in the Council area.

This would ensure that the matter would:-

A. Have to be placed on the agenda of a Council meeting (where the Petition Organiser would have an opportunity to put their case for five minutes and Councillors would discuss for about 15 minutes)

B. The Council would have to make a decision, and provide notification of their decision within 5 working days of the Council meeting

Do we have the capability, will and desire to organise ourselves and achieve this for our football club?

As well as a well organised petition (Curtis is definitely the man for that) we should take on Steve Easterbrooks advice and write to the council (Rob Anderson) and MP (Fiona McTaggart)

My letter to the council has been sent.

Why dont we aim to get a petition raised so that it can be signed at the first home game

of the season (as this is usually a decent attendance?)

We might have trouble with this part,

3. Acquire 1,500 signatures on the petition (including name, address and signature), from people who verifiably live, work or study in the Council area

But sounds like a good idea.

I sent emails to Rob Anderson, Fiona McTaggart and Lord Nash today as per my thread on this last week. I encourage others to do the same.

The Red card protest at a home game could work too, with cards to send off afterwards. As with the letters, people actually need to do it though.

With regards to petition, it's worth noting that the petition raised early last year only just made it to 1500 signatures. Secondly we have a lot of fans that do not live in the Slough area.

I think what we require is 30 dedicated people who will commit to getting 50 signatures each.

I'm willing to put myself down for that:-

1. Mark Curtis

2.

3.

4.

5.

Add yourself to the list if you are willing to do the same.

Please note that this is the sort of thing that our Chairman Steve Easterbrook has called on us fans to do:-

http://www.nonleague.co.uk/topic/180896-new-ground-gone-in-favour-of-new-school/page-6

And since he has spent 7 years trying to get a resolution the least I think we can do is spend at least a few weeks trying to help.

Sounds good Kay.

Also related to this idea, Curtis might be in a good position to get some of the MyFC people to come along to our first home game so they can take part in this too.  Would also boost the home attendance a little too hopefully.

Not sure if this feasible or whether it would be legal,as not adults, but wouldn't a petition with names of youngsters who attend schools and college and play football in the Slough area be a great way of highlighting what a new sporting stadium can do for now and the future generation.

We could make a start with Slough Town FC's youth teams and academy players and they could recruit their friends.

Add all of us regular supporters with each individual's family and friends in the locality, and you should have a petition that will at least register with these apathetic,non-plus-ed council members. Well, that's the hope!

By the way,you could add my name to the list,Curtis but I could get plenty of signatures from the South Bucks area but very few from the Slough area, which is probably a problem for many in this regard.

3spirit,

Once we have 30 people on the list we can arrange a meeting to discuss both the specific petition wording and ways of getting 50 signatures..... that may well include some people achieving their 50 by contacting parents of youth team or academy players, members of the Supporters Trust or season ticket holders, fans who attend matches and Slough based businesses.

There should be plenty of opportunities here, which should enable a Slough Town FC fan living outside of the Slough Borough to achieve 50 signatures.
