Kay,

It's a point that could be raised by either the Club and/or fans with the Council..... in that, if a decision is not made by the Council fairly promptly to either provide a ground or a piece of land for the Club (which is what they appear to have committed to over the last seven years), then the Club will either not be able to progress further or need to try to make alternative arrangements in order to be able to do so.

If my understanding is correct, ground grading requirements for potential promotion to the Conference South is 1st April 2015..... there can't be any further indecision from Slough Borough Council, they must be pressed to make a decision one way or another in the next couple of months.

As a Slough Town fan I am happy to write to the Council and attend a Councillor Surgery to put the case for the Club (next one in my ward is 31st July 2014)..... but I would like the opinion of the Club as to whether they wish to continue with the Arbour Vale site or an alternative.

From what I can see from the maps, the Council look like they will have less than 2 acres at Arbour Vale for a community sports facility..... is this likely to be sufficient for the Club to have a ground, training facilities and adequate parking?

In my opinion, and it is purely my own personal opinion, a much more suitable location would be an area of about 4 acres located in Upton Court Park, behind the Scout Hut. This could be a sufficient size to provide a ground, training facilities and parking.

I appreciate that the Council have received considerable criticism recently regarding development of Upton Court Park, but my understanding is this has been because they have potentially contravened restrictive covenants on the land by allowing an access road to a new residential development.

What the dispute has highlighted though is that Frederick Cornish sold the land to the Council in 1935 with a restrictive covenant that states:-

'Upton Court Park should be used for the provision of public walks, paths, pleasure grounds, or playing fields, including the provision of pavilions, other buildings and conveniences'

Which probably explains why over the years the Council have provided various pieces of land in Upton Court Park for the Cricket, Hockey and Rugby clubs (with buildings), and various other sports facilities.

Would this potential alternative result in several more years of delay though? Would the Club be able to secure funding through grants to build a ground and clubhouse if they were allocated this land? Or would funding be required from the Council to do so?

What direction does the Club wish to pursue from here?

Excellent post Curtis.

Is the remaining piece of ground at Arbour Vale big enough for a football ground, parking etc?

What about the most obvious solution, Upton Court Park, where most of Slough's other sports facilities are?

These questions have been raised before and as yet it seems no answers have been forthcoming. As we know, we have Slough Town supporters on SBC including the leader of the Council so why does it seem so difficult to get answers to questions such as these?

I have just taken a look at the Slough Borough Council boundaries map

http://www.slough.gov.uk/moderngov/documents/s27433/Council%2029%2001%2013%20Appendix%20B%20-%20Boundary%20Map.pdf

And the land I am referring to is in Slough Borough Council..... the boundary is the foot path just beyond it and before the bridge over to the Datchet/Slough Road.

As I have said previously fans and supporters must now MOBILISE and ORGANISE themselves to put as much pressure on the council as possible. The press announcement re the Arbourvale site was not specific and information being provided to the club is vague. So whilst the club await clarification I would advise supporters and fans to contact their councillors, who they have elected, and the leader of the council as it is these people who have the power.

There are too many promises now that have been made to the club which have been hollow........

So what am I saying…. It is probably wise that the club continue to seek clarification of the Arbourvale site. However in the meantime if fans/supporters want to put forward alternative sites to the leader of the council (which may or may not have previously been considered) then that is up to them…...I already have answers to a lot of them but hey that was many moons ago and we now have free schools which we didn’t have then!

What affect could it have…...well it may well be used as another excuse to delay things -but if requests and explanations are not officially from the club then strictly speaking it is just a general enquiry from an interested Slough tax payer.

7 years to get to here and 12 years homeless!

I know your not being serious Graham but would take the Gore if we had no other choice but Holloways Park would be a non starter.

Both are pretty dead ducks,in attracting new fans to either ground but I believe Holloways Park has better logistics and potential to be a good stadium, given the right infrastructure, financial support and planning.

I'm still of the opinion that if Slough's councillors can't find a way to home the club, then we should change our name and not give them any free advertising for doing sod all,.Like our heroic promotion and subsequent publicity provided for them.

We should be called something like 'The Berkshire Exiles' until the stalemate ends.

Wexham Park and a long lease and some kind of 'deal' looks almost appealing, the way things are going, but that option is a win/win for the Council and the bound to be smug Byron Thorne, who most of the Slough fans[myself included] resent for making us homeless in the first place !
