New Ground Gone In Favour Of New School?

My gut reaction is that if it was going to happen for us it would have happened already. I think we will find ourselves shafted. I hope I'm wrong and the council prove me wrong but I foresee a bleak future.

The main reason for the delay seems to have been Slough Council coming to an arrangement with the DofE over the Arbour Vale site.

Hopefully the 'Community Sports Facilities' includes Slough Town FC.

Seems strange that only two pieces of land have been measured with the square footage and the piece for the Community Sports facilities has not.

Looking at it, it's a different shape but seems about the same size as the area marked out for the school playing fields.

Using Google Maps I've been able to do some rough calculations.

The area of land is roughly around 61800m², take out the measurements for the two areas marked on all the maps we've seen which equates to a combined size of 36560m² that leaves an area of land 25240m².

Obviously once you factor in the infrastructure into all those areas the space gets smaller, but out the three areas marked the area of land "earmarked for development for community sports facilities" is the largest

What I can't find anywhere is how this compares to the size of land prior.

I messed around with one of the Arbour Vale plans from the website and the map from that Express story yesterday and came up with this.  It's not entirely accurate but it may still be possible to fit in the original plans for the stadium, although the council are now saying there are no designs in place for any community sports facilities.

I'm sure this has been said before but the vast majority of people living in Slough have no interest in whether we exist or not and if pressed would probably say they don't want a football ground anywhere within the Slough Borough Council area. This, sadly, is why I think it is unlikely that we will ever return and why we will always be swimming against the tide. My pessimistic mood is probably fuelled by England's abysmal performance in the World Cup but no worries, we'll definitely win the Euro's in 2016.

Think England were a bit unlucky personally, so not too despondent on that count. As far as the new ground is concerned, we'll have to wait for SBC announcement regarding the 'Community Sports' area. Still hopeful on this one.........chins up everyone for goodness sake!!

it seems to escape everybodies notice that the ground or at least part of it lies in green belt and the council have to negotiate with the government to use it for the use for which they intend it. that is why there is nothing on the maps in the papers. of course this is all paper talk.

I don't think it matters a jot to the Government whether it's green belt or not.

If they want it built ,they run roughshod over anything in their way, just like they have done with this Pinewood Studios expansion plans, the HS2 crossrail plans, the Olympics etc.

Someone's  making a tidy pennies from it I expect.

Bunch of crooks, the lot of them !

A fourth runway at Heathrow will be next...........

This country has become an over populated, over built, car strewn shithole and they call that progress !

Whatever happened to the Village Green Preservation Society?

I'm assuming that even if we can get a stadium in the spare piece of land, we would lose out on the proposed 3G pitches that were meant to be part of the community sports facilities (guessing then that the new school would have these) so we would lose out on money from that too.

Hard to read into the chairman's statement, don't know if he really knows what will happen next or if he still believes the plan will go ahead. Either way it must be gutting to have this happen after the work he has put in over the last 7 years.

Rob Anderson and his fellow councillors are certainly going to be popular next time they come to a game.

As said before, I think Rob Anderson and co really had no say in the matter as it is existing school land.

Be interesting to see if they uphold their threat of taking the government to court to recoup their losses.

Heavy Trucker, I only said all that speel because you happened to say about it being green belt.

There's all these rules and regulations/laws for Joe Public but when it comes to the people who run this country, they just bend the rules to suit themselves.

I know I've veered off the Arbour Vale subject but it still boils down to trusting the words of these double dealers.

So the most important issue to do with the clubs future has not even had a post in the last 3 days!

What's happening - is the club just going to bend over again and take one? again!

Is there a plan going forward? or is it back to the Bateman days of no plan B?

Is it time again to take to the streets and remind the powers that be that Slough is the largest town in the UK without it's football club playing in its own town?

What is happening?

The press release from Steve Easterbrook did not clarify whether the remaining piece of land at Arbour Vale was still a viable possibility for a Football ground or not.

Until we get further news from Steve on this, I'm not sure what more we can do or say.
