EFC does have a history. A history which most, if not all at the Town were part of. That is all that EFC has. It has no future which many on this thread recognise but the fans at EFC think they can run a SENIOR football club on hope alone. Tell that to Wivenhoe and the many other Johny come latelys who were once at the top of the Istmian League!

A senior club needs to pay players, even if it is only expenses. It is not a hobby. There is no knight in shining armour who is going to rescue EFC and I think that they had a nerve saying that they want to copy the Town and AFC Wimbledon.

I agree that Enfield Town is the future of senior Football in the borough but EFC cannot and should not be allowed to become defunct FC. The spirit of the Town will continue whether there is an amalgamation or not but the idea of the two clubs joining together rather than EFC dying should be discussed properly. What does it matter what the name is!

What holds a club together are its supporters. EFC lives in Enfield Town no matter what the current fans of EFC think and that history should join its rightful heirs. The support is there and will grow.

The subject is about Football, its future, its history and tradition. It is not about petty squabbles and percieved or imaginary greivances.

Regards.

the thought of merging with EFC doesn't work for me. A previous thread said that it would be a way for us to get out of the ESL as the poster felt we would not win the leagaue this season. I would not want to see us get out of the ESL as a result of merging with EFC. I want to get out of the ESL on merit. By winning the league and by the hard work of the board and supporters in getting the ground ready on time. History must state that ETFC succeed on merit!

>>What does it matter what the name is!<<

Enfield FC (unfortunately) is going to be remembered for a Chairman who run the club into the ground. Do we want to be supporting a club that will now be remembered more for its boardroom antics than its proud achievements? We started this club as a positive reaction to what was going on at Enfield FC and I for one agree with Mr Happy that we see the job through that was started in 2001. Better to get promotion by merit than to merge our way up the Pyramid like other clubs.

The naivity of those who wrote in the NLP is staggering.

Do they really think people will go back. I may be wrong (insertown joke here...) but I really cannot see it.

Steph - you make some good points but Enfield Town is the name. It serves as a reminder of why we broke away and as a spur to us all to push our club as far as we can. Living by our own work and mistakes.

As I have said before good luck to those who stayed behind. I have the utmost respect for the majority but we have moved on.

Neil is absolutely right about his comments as well - well put Neil

>>Russ - Yes

And I know of at least one other who is a year older than me.

>>Jim/Neil

Lazerou is only part of the story of EFC there are other many more stories.

Tom Lawrence-Broke his skull in a Great Britain Olympic Trial and missed our first Wembley final went on to manage one of the most successful Enfield sides ever.

John Payne - A fitness fanatic who died of muscular dystrophy before his time.

Brian Fuller a promising full back killed in a road accident.

Tony Alder played for Highgate and got struck by lightening in 1967. The replay amateur cup game brought the biggest crowd to Villa Park that season.

Roger Day - a master at football.

Alf D'arcy the best centre half in the non league game.

Malcom Mitchell who broke his arm at Wembley and came out to play centre forward against Crook Town with his arm in plaster. Little Roy Thomas in goal.

Derek Dawson Malcom Mitchell's predecessor in goal with his flat cap.

Peter Terry - gave away more penalties than any other player in the team.

Fry - a no nonsense kick the ball out player.

Ray Hill - broke his leg at Underhill and got sent off against Barnet as well.

Noel Ashford - his goal at Barnet.

Jim Quail, Ray Kingsland, Noel Cantwell etc.

These are the players that put Enfield on the map.

And not to forget the board room that kept us going. Len Rust. Alan Young - President of the club Jules Thorn.

George Ludford the manager that also created that first successful Enfield team.

This is the history of Enfield FC and Lazerou was a boil on that reputation. It is for ETFC to live up to that reputation they should need no further spur.

A possible amalgamation should be on the agenda for next season! As that history must not die.

I bet every Christmas Steph like clockwork you get Old Spice or Brut aftershave. Well as a brand for me each has had its day. Ditto Enfield FC,the brand for me is now tainted and forever will be associated with the closure of Southbury Road and that houising estate which saddens me everytime I pass it. If EFC are to be a fan based club good luck to them!

Surely EFC was a brand? A brand being something that has certain values and conjures up images in and associations in your mind

Abyway, we all @ ETFC have something to be proud of on what we have started to build, let's not get distracted on what is going on outside the boro'!

Who says that enfield fc will still have a league position that would be any good to us at the end of the season? We MUST stay in the borough, which was the reason we formed our club, and not do like them media darlings south of the river who immediatley bought a ground out of their area and to me sacrificed the true point of their club

Steph - I think your right a possible amalgmation should be on the agenda next season/year.

Then we can vote against it and move on; we have a great, if short history, and do not need to buy the history of a club we have all supported and moved on from.

By the way - @ ETFC we need to ensure we do alienate the growing number of supporters who never went to Southbury, and have never sen EFC play @ home in Enfield.

That's a good point. Any idea what percentage of ETFC supporters never went to Southbury Road?
