Central dream team of the season

Recommended Posts

In the non-league paper today, they have a dream team made up of last season's best Southern Premier players.

Thought by the end of this coming season, we fans will be able to pick our own version of the best players in the Southern Premier team but for now, what about a dream team of the Central Division just gone, excluding Slough players[as not fair to single any of them out].

So, what 11 players [plus 5 subs] from the Central Division would you pick,in your dream team?

I'll start the ball rolling

James Reading [Northwood] GK

Simon Sweeney[Aylesbury] RB

Nathan Fox [Rugby] LB

Liam Dolman [Daventry] CH

Henry Eze [Kettering] CH

Jamie Towers[Rugby] RM

Luke Knight[barton Rovers] CM

Nathan Poulton [beaconsfield Sycob] CM

Craig Tomkins [uxbridge ]LM

Lee Roache [Dunstable] CF

Seb Lake Gaskin[Rugby CF]

Subs: James Weatherill [Aylesbury],Danny Murphy[Dunstable] Adam Confue[Daventry] Michael Moody[Egham] Ashley Robinson[Daventry].

What's yours?

Good team. Would agree nearly all positions but would definitely have Ben Gladwin in at left midfield. He was probably the best player I saw against us last season. Not sure about Sweeney at right back, did we even face him last season? No alternative leaps out for me though!

Have to agree, not a bad side, but could not say Sweeney as did not play against him (so would throw in Ellis Myles at Rugby), and I would have Gladwin on left and Ross Oulton on the right:

Maybe Ritchie Byrne at centre half from Egham instead of one of Eze or Dolman.

Finally instead of Poulton I would put in James Jepson at Kettering.

Would definitely have Ross Oulton in midfield and Keshi Anderson (Barton) in one of the wide positions. Hard to remember fullbacks who really stood out although I agree Fox looked decent.

The other position that is difficult to call for me is in goal where no-one really stood out as being that much better than everyone else.....not including our boy of course!

Gladwin would be the first name on the teamsheet for me as he was head and shoulders above anyone else in the league which is not being detrimental to anyone when you see where he is now.

To be honest was a bit stumped for a left winger but as Tomkins scores goals thought I'd put him there.I agree with you that Keishi Anderson looks a useful player.I did toy with having him in my side. Also like Tommy Hull but you can't have everyone.

Actually forgot about Ben Gladwin !

Reason I had Simon Sweeney was because of past glories with Slough,I suppose.

As a defender, though,he is hard to get past and if fit is as good as anyone especially as a right back.

You should appreciate this,Neil, being that you were mainly a full back,Simon Sweeney is no wing back but offers a solid dependable defender that can play as centre-half.He is Mr Reliable.

Pretty sure Bakes was a centre-back. Think he was when he played against us anyway.

No offence to Bakes but they don't usually have shorties as centre backs ! Don't think he was?

Neil, can you clear this up?

Centre half all day long I am afraid, played a bit at full back when needed, it was my Dad who was mainly a left back.

Not many people beat me in the air Stuart  ;) all about timing!!!

I'm gobsmacked. Was convinced you were a full back.Saw your father play a few times,so perhaps I'm muddling you up.

Next you will be telling me is that Unders wasn't a centre forward ! ha ha ha!

You always remind of Andy Clement,so that could be another reason but it's probably more to do with the booze and the lack of brain cells ! lol!

You can't have been that bad Bakes considering your assistant signed you ;-)

Good job he did, as our heroic duo may not have arrived here at Slough,if that hadn't of happened.

Going back to the dream team thing,I liked Bradley Wadkins of  Aylesbury FC and think Steve Bateman has got a very good player in him.He definitely has the potential to play higher.

As for teams we faced that weren't in the top 5, I was impressed by the young Aylesbury United side that gave us a run for our money at Holloways Park in our 5-3 win[NB Reading Rebel].

They have some talented young players.Tony Joyce and Glynn Creaser have moulded a good young side together, without necessarily having the money.

Egham also matched us and I was surprised they slipped down the table at the end of the season.Losing a couple of their players to higher teams couldn't have helped.

Also thought Marlow was a competitive team and looking who Mark Bartley has signed for this new season, they are going to be no pushovers again.

I like their goalkeeper Simon Grant. He did a decent job for Slough for a short time,a couple of seasons ago,so he was in mind when I picked my dream team.

All three sides mentioned were fairly recent promoted sides. Can they maintain it? Don't see why not.

3spirit, Aylesbury FC and the 3-3 draw was at Aylesbury United.

I think with teams like Egham it boils down to the depth of their squads.

You could possible put SYCOB, Royston, Aylebury United, Northwood in that bracket where they threatened to break into the top five until they dropped off in the latter stages.

I also think Marlow could be pushing for top 6.

Told off completely! Brain wasn't engaged, got up late[my excuse].  Sorry RR,it should have read 5-3 rather than 3-3 draw !

Also not AFC.Will try to edit it,now you've pulled me up !

What would we do without you on this forum? :)

By the way, I've pencilled you in for you know what.
