Wear A Sports Shirts Day - Friday, 13th June 2014 - An appeal to clubs with clubhouses

post-10508-0-88344900-1401366046_thumb.jpgAll,

As you may be aware as part of my project to collect football shirts, kit, equipment etc I am organising a Wear A Sports Shirt Day on Friday, 13th June 2014.

The basic concept is a simple one - wear a sports shirt that day and donate an old shirt or other item of sports clothing or equipment.

To that end I am appealing to clubs with clubhouses - or indeed a strong connection with a local pub - for support.

How it would work for a clubhouse (or pub) is simple.

Anyone working that day would be asked to wear a sports shirt to work - and donate something to the appeal/ (Or the club could do that on their behalf.)

The club / pub could then encourage members / regulars to wear a sports shirt that day when they go to the club and ask them to donate with the club acting as a collection point.

I am delighted that Saltash United will be supporting the day along with 4 other pubs in Saltash.

Four charities are now involved - KitAid, Kits4Causes, SOS Kit Aid and, closed to home, St Lukes Hospice.

Any support would be very much appreciated and I can be contacted via the forum or on e mail - julian.chenery@hotmail.com.

Many thanks,

Julian

“Wear a Sports Shirt Day” – Friday, 13th June 2014

The Concept

The idea behind this is a simple one. As many people as possible wear a sports shirt on Friday, 13th June 2014 and, for doing so, donate either that shirt or any other item of sportswear or equipment to charity.

Who Can Take Part?

Anyone!

This is open to anyone of any age and whether at school, at work, unemployed or retired.

This is open to companies ranging from one-man bands to companies with locations throughout the UK.

It is open to offices, factories, bars, clubs, shops etc. For a business to support the event all that is needed is for the staff – be that one person or hundreds – to wear a sports shirt and donate something to the appeal.

Places like bars and clubs may also wish to involve their customers in donating.

It is open to schools and it would be great to see schoolchildren and their teachers enjoying a non-uniform sports shirt wearing day in support of the appeal.

Those who aren’t working can simply wear a sports shirt as they go about their normal daily activities. Not forgetting to donate of course!

In places where there is a dress code or uniform those wishing to take part will need the permission of their employer or school. Hopefully that will be forthcoming.

The Date

A Friday has been picked as many offices / places of work where there is a dress code allow staff to dress down on a Friday.

Friday, 13th June 2014 is the Friday before England’s opening World Cup fixture when, hopefully, the interest in sport will be at a high point.

Which Sports?

Any!

To take part just wear a shirt from your favourite sport or team. This can range from a Premiership football team to a local side, to the shirt you wear when out running or the shirt from your pub darts or euchre team.

The same goes for donations – any of the above or shorts, socks, boots, shinpads, the list is endless.

If in doubt donate!

Who Will Benefit?

Four charities are involved in the appeal.

Three are specialist kit charities supplying donated equipment to children and young people in Africa and other parts of the developing world plus where it is needed at home. They are KitAid, Kits4Causes and SOS Kit Aid.

The other is St Lukes Hospice, Plymouth. St Luke’s Hospice provides specialist end of life care to over 3.500 patients a year from across Plymouth, South West Devon & East Cornwall

Get Involved!

Please get involved and support this appeal. My contact details are below.

I will resolve logistics relating to collection of donations individually with supporters of the event.

Many thanks & I look forward to your support.

Julian Chenery
