News from Dorking FC and Meadowbank!

Never say Never, years ago when i played for Ash if you'd had said Baggy Lea and Ash will one day be ground sharing then you would of been laughed out of town, the dislike of the two clubs was immense so another groundshare by 2 rival teams would not surprise me

I have to pick up on this ludicrous comparison between Dorking and Dorking Wanderers and North and South Korea. Let's use a better analogy like Everton and Liverpool where those two clubs have had rivalries for years. The two Dorking sides have not, as the Wanderers have been around for five minutes in real terms. Likewise Baggy Lea and Ash.

I have sympathy for Dorking FC having been left to rot over the last few years. They are however, incredibly fortunate to have a council that is willing to financially support a football venture in the town.

So what do Dorking do? In their press release, they throw their toys out of the pram and start insisting before they are even back, mind, that they will not share with the Wanderers. Apart from the obvious lack of support for two teams in the town these days, if they did get together to form a Dorking United, there would be continuity across both histories and they would have greater numbers off the field to push things forward. It has happened in the past with teams who had greater rivalries like Sudbury and Inverness, just to think of two off the top of my head, who merged and now play at a higher level because they put aside a hundred years of differences to work for the town.

Dorking FC who constantly bang on about their continuity and history, despite omitting that they actually folded in 1936 and did not restart until after the War, have to realise that they are not entitled to anything, let alone the laying down of conditions. In fact a clever council would actually insist on the two clubs merging as a condition of the lease. As a Council tax payer in that borough I might even write in to suggest it...

Then they might actually have a Step Three or higher team, befitting a town of this size instead of two kicking around at a lower level.

And before anyone says, I would also be in agreement with a similar merger between Epsom & Ewell and Epsom Athletic once a new ground is forthcoming. As Epsom & Ewell Borough we could pool resources and off field support so that the team can once again have an interest in the higher steps of the non-league pyramid, and you never know we might get given a tenner by the council too!

Thanks Nosher. By the way, what cosy pre-season tournaments?

We have met them once in our pre-season tournament in 2012 and once in a separate friendly back in 2010.

As for the tournament, we have however held our pre-season tournament at Meadowbank before.

Try looking at the words instead of trying to find a story that isn't there. Alternatively look at the initials of my paragraphs...

Intelligent post E&E where I agree whole heartily.   Dorking United is the way to go here....it makes logistical sense !  Forget about history and ego's, if Dorking town want a successful football club then its got to be a merger otherwise, I can only see Dorking W. and Dorking FC staying where they are in the lower NLS pyramid unless a sugar daddy comes along then the opposite Dorking club will become jealous one feels, what happens then ......merger?

Do write to their Council and suggest it E&E...... ;)

Good God, some people do take themselves rather seriously. It's a hobby that

diverts some from the grim reality of life

Re mergers aka takeovers

Sticking to Dirking a single club in a decent facility could well be ryman prem

At that point there is a void for Dorkung players not good enough for ryman prem but too good for village side

Get a group of them together they win at intermediate level

They then come knocking at meadowbank to groundshare so they can get in cc div one or Sussex three

They do well. Dirking can't sustain two sides

Merger

Repeat

Answer

Don't groundshare

Don't merge

Find your level

Enjoy

Seems fair enough to me. Both clubs want to do well at a venue that would be ideal for a club to progress. What annoyed me about DFC's original statement was that the very first thing they responded to was anti-DFCW. No "looking forward to returning" or very grateful to the council" etc

As for tsfs clairvoyance, Epsom were Isthmian Prem back in the eighties but we didn't suddenly get local teams wanting a grounsdshare. Why would it suddenly happen now? There are dozens of teams in a town like Epsom or Dorking. Everyone finds their level, but my point that people wanted to assume was pro one side and against the other for some reason was that the sum of the parts made a  lot of sense, especially when a large amount of money is being invested in the "Town" facilities.

VOR sorry that our ramblings are so beneath you. If you don't like what we have to say and it's only a hobby, why do you bother commenting? Or is your hobby trolling? I don't recall reading a positive post from you at any point, just a random series of negative threads, in your own articulately patronising style, of course.

Everyone may have their own identity (even though some like to hide behind a name still) but sometimes you have to put these things to one side for the greater good. The team has to come before the name, and in this day and age, naming rights (and dare I say it 3g surfaces) for grounds and things like that are genuine revenue streams. Identity only gets you so far. You have to compromise if you really want to progress or you remain stuck in the past.

Dorking is a big enough place to have a town club of a reasonable size. As with Epsom, they used to play at a level alongside Leatherhead, Slough, Maidstone, Maidenhead, Dagenham, Chesham and Uxbridge and with a population and fairly large catchment area, there is no reason why they couldn't do so again as a 21st century entity representing the town, instead of dividing it by constantly sniping at a team down the road that is clearly winning the propaganda battle in this town.

Good post Rich, everybody seems to be overlooking the Main point here, I will say it again Dorking is going to be a Community Project for Dorking people as a whole, does the Westhumble area fall outside of the proposed Community that will benefit from MVDC's Plans.Would personally think that Dorking FC would love to have the Wanderers onside, just for this reason,1 club has gone to rack and ruin, whilst the other has improved leaps and bounds on and off the pitch. It is a no brainer unite!!!!!!!!! in harmony.

Part of the press release :

In keeping with its determination to create a legacy for the whole community, the Board of Dorking FC will continue to search for the option that provides the maximum benefit to the town. The current Board were successful in taking the reins of Dorking FC on this basis, with the full agreement and support of Mole Valley District Council. Both parties have been engaged in very positive discussions ever since. Our plan is to provide a platform to support football in the community for decades to come, not to simply meet the aspirations of a single club.
