DerekR
I apologise to forum members, but I thought that it was important to remember that it is now 50 years since an Enfield side became a leading force on the national amateur/semi-professional stage. Yes, it was then that we made our first visit to Wembly for an FA Amateur Cup Final v Crook Town. following a semi-final and replay v Kingstonian at Chelsea and Fulham. What an exciting ride we have all had since then. Let us hope that our prominence will continue. COYT.
missunderstood
It must also have been about 50 years ago since you beat (cheated) Romford out of a deserved FA Cup victory at Highbury Stadium. Joking aside, I remember how professional your team looked when they walked on the Brookland pitch before the first match, all dressed in club suits and ties. I also remember a full house at your place for the first replay, and I doubt that will ever happen again for a cup tie between two non-league sides. Happy days indeed. Eastside Urchin
lol,you are so bitter Alan. Well done to Enfield for beating (cheating) Romford out of a victory at the home of World Football!! Coincidentally, why was the game played at Highbury?? I assume that because of the size of non league clubs and the size of both clubs that it was considered worth switching??? What was the crowd size?? Also,I would like to see a return to clubs at all levels turning up in suits,it's about time clubs flexed their muscles again and started showing the players who is in charge

One of the Enfield players punched the ball into the net and the only person that missed it was the referee. I don't remember how many watched the game, but I would imagine it was far higher than the 7000? that packed the old Enfield stadium. Enfield was probably the better team on the night and deserved their victory, but the handball goal was so outrageous it will never be forgotten. Steph
I wasn't there but the story I heard is that the ref did see the handball but considered it was the result of a shove from a Romford defender if he hadn't awarded the goal it would have been a penalty.
