A couple of non league snippets

Reckon the quality of the pitch at Kings Langley will improve the football in general. Chelsea dug up the pitch at Staines and they now have a superb pitch (it wasn't bad beforehand either).

Don't know what they're spending on it but it's obviously going to improve their pitch greatly plus they'll have the expert advice and ongoing maintenance from Watford's head groundsman. Also presume they get a cut from either the gate and/or bar and catering when they host Watford Ladies. Again don't know what crowds they attract but guessing it'll be more than KL get. With these contracts being handed out I wonder what their ambition is this season?

Watford Ladies are averaging over 200 per game. There first game at Kings Langley was over 400. Kings Langley averaged 188 in their last three games not counting the last game which was 645. This is a big improvement on the start of the season when the average was 125 ( incl the Slough game)

A lot of village teams have dilutions of grandeur at one time or other but once the money's spent they soon tumble down to their natural level.

The best example that I can think of that operated a 'boom or bust' philosophy was Histon and look where they are now.

Good luck to them for trying but after just escaping relegation by the narrowest of margins they start their player recruitment by handing out 2 year contracts

If they're being honest and realistic staying up would be an achievement this coming season. So why burden yourself with 2 year contracts when there's plenty of players out there who would be good enough to just sign forms to achieve the same goal? I think they had spend a pretty penny recently just to get their ground upto this level. Can you imagine KL in the Conference South?

With only 1 team getting relegated at the end of the season their chance of staying up is fairly good.

Well reminded! Ok so they're probably be fine this season but you do wonder why some owners believe or can see potential when the vast majority can't and on the whole it usually does end in disaster.

If Steve Easterbrook didn't believe of see potential in Slough Town then the club might not have existed today, and we certainly wouldn't be playing in Slough. If the owners of any club stop caring the club will stagnate and slowly fade away with no hope of ever progressing.

You obviously can't compare the potential of Slough and KL! Nowt wrong with ambition if it's sustainable and not solely reliant on one person. KL are in essence a village team and that's not being disrespectful, they'd probably admit they've risen faster than expected. Just seems odd to hand out contracts for a club of their stature.

Dave Pearce has joined Oxford City.

I can't see Chesham being such a force this season. Going to be a big turnaround of players at that club and with others coming in,it is going to take some time for them to settle in and get use to Danny Talbot's management.

Which is good news for Slough's quest for promotion. Perhaps we can manage to get 6 points out of them this season ! ha ha!

Still lots of problems at Basingstoke. They have been told they can start the season at the Camrose ground but have no guarentee just yet that they will still be allowed to play there by the end of the season. There is a possibility that they might not finish the season either, which would likely mean if they go bust no other team in our league would get relegated.

With the rich Chairman going are they still going to be full-time?

I'm guessing he was on loan then as they mentioned he was outstanding for them (KL) last season? There's no doubt then with 2 year contracts plus fees that someone has put a large amount of money into them this summer. I can't see Watford Ladies paying much in rent. The deal is more likely KL get a cut of bar/catering, increased exposure plus a new pitch and ongoing professional care.
