A couple of non league snippets

Just seen an interview with Jose Mourinho after the Swansea game, with him complaining his team have played too many matches this season.

So far Man Utd have played 57 games in all competitons (August 7th - April 30th)

Slough Town played a total of 59 games in all competitions (August 6th - April 26th)

Shows how much the Premier league players complain about too many matches is total rubbish but also how fit players at non league have to be to play that many matches on top of normal jobs and training.

I answered this question on face book,

They use a squad, out of the 57 games only Pogba has played 41 of the 57 games. But most of the players have only played late 20's, so only about half of the 57 games. On top of that some teams only train in the mornings. Unlike non-league (mostly) have full time jobs.

The most important question that Neil/Jon must ask any player before next season starts (all players retained from the season just ended and any newly recruited) is this "Do you have a genuine desire to play at the next level" Im not sure this was true of some players last season and its absolutely essential if we are to regain our former position in non league.

I'm pretty certain this is something our managers do as a matter of course in their recruitment of players new and old.

I think all of our players gave it their best shot last season. Possibly for some 'their best shot' wasn't quite good enough.

Every team at step 3 who finished 2nd won their play offs.

And every team at step 4 who finished 2nd made it to the play off final.

The only teams who finished 2nd and were not promoted were:

Salisbury (southern south and west)

Maldon an Tiptree (Ryman north)

Just one of many hobby clubs where they're punching above their weight down to being heavily financed. Obviously it's worked to a certain degree but they have or will get the support necessary to be independent of full backing. Can see a season of struggle for them and maybe back to a level they're more comfortable with.

On a similar topic the fund raising exercise for St Ives Josh Dawkin who sustained a double leg break at Chippenham has exceeded its target with 19 days still to go The non league community can always be relied upon to rally round when essential help is neededd

Beaconsfield are running an ad in the non league paper for a manager, interestingly under the name BEACONSFIELD TOWN, i have heard rumours for a season or two they were changing names but i can`t find any confirmation of this.

Yeah there was talk of this a year or two but then nothing happened. Really can't see it making any difference, not as if businesses and potential fans are suddenly going to realise there's a football club in town because of a name change?

I disagree.

While I accept Beaconsfield has no history in non-league football, like Slough has, I believe with the right vision for the town as a whole, that club could be a success story, waiting to happen.

I see it as having more potential than Burnham. The ground has excellent road links and if the ground and parking were addressed and the right people in the know became involved, that club could go from strength to strength.

So far the club itself has failed to get closer ties to the area it is supposed to be representing but that is not to say that it can not be done.

The club have been at HP for years why all of a sudden would that change unless there was a massive marketing campaign and loads of money upgrading the facilities which neither will happen? Just can't see it having the desired effect...
