A couple of non league snippets

This Billericay 'project' is obviously not sustainable and I think we can all say with confidence their owner is going to continually spend indefinitely. They're not a well supported club or have massive potential and yeah he could fund it with silly money like he is doing and they could win a few promotions and even possibly make the football league. But when the crowds aren't matching the progress and he comes to his senses and sees how much he's lost he'll walk away and be yet another club having to reform. These types of owners should be forced to put a certain amount up front to be safeguarded by the league to stop so many going to the wall when rich owners get bored or don't get their own way.

They have been getting over a thousand through the gates over the last month since they have got in the news. Will be interesting if it carries on next season, particularly if they are not chasing promotion.

With regard to Poole & Hungerford, whatever you may think about ground grading, everyone knows the rules. It beggars belief that those 2 clubs haven't had something in place much much sooner if they have aspirations of going to a higher level.

I went to Hungerford when they played Maidenhead (Slough were in Dorchester, didn't fancy the lonely journey) and that ground had not changed one jot! There was some work due to start and a bucket collection to help fund it, but we're talking Feb 2017 with a deadline of end March 2017 for the work to be done!

I would expect both clubs to struggle at the next level as the support doesn't appear to be there, so maybe they view it that way too.

I know the playoff schedule is what it is, and everyone knew/knows the rules regarding participation, but to me there would be something wrong with the sixth or seventh placed team like Hampton or Wealdstone having a shot at promotion, as it wouldn't be deserved on the strength of their performance on the pitch.

And with Mark44 whose post nipped in before mine. I think on balance and since the existing clubs due to be relegated already have the ground grading then they should be reprieved. So any play off places should not be transferred downwards if any teams finishing 2-5 do not have the necessary ground grading in place. Bit tricky because of course both Poole and Hungerford had the normal period of grace to get their grounds to Conference South standard. Have they been denied a further grace period on promotion to Conference National because this would be 2 consecutive grace periods (don't know the rules on this) or are they or at least one of them be relegated back to level 3 because they have not even made the Conference South grading in the grace period? Don't know the full facts myself but whatever as per my previous post I think this sort of conundrum is going to become more prevalent as time goes on.

Both clubs HAVE made the ground grading for conference south which is Grade B. However the requirements to participate in the play offs are not the same as achieving Grade B requirements.

To achieve Grade B you need 500 covered seats but will be allowed to remain in conference South if you have just 250 covered seats, however, to compete in the playoffs you MUST have 500 covered seats in place before March 31st.

Both clubs have at least the 250 covered seats allowing them to meet Grade B in the conference south but have less than the 500 needed for play offs.

The rules on which teams can compete in the playoffs also state that no club finishing below 7th will be eligible for play offs and if this results in just 3 teams then the team finishing in 2nd place in the league table will receive a bye to the play off final.

H&Y have had a torrid issues on and off the pitch since they sold their old ground which looks to have been a massive mistake and someone somewhere has done well out of that deal. They've gone from a Conference National side to Southern Central in a relatively short time and with tiny crowds and no guarantees they can get promoted back first time it doesn't look too bright.
