A couple of non league snippets

Disagree again.

Firstly I agree that 3G is irrelevant as we will obviously have to play on grass as well (even though this season we will have played approximately 59% of our games on 3G)

Big forwards will be more of a handful in physical sense of course but small strikers will cause more problems if they have good movement. Big strikers will be able to have a physical battle against defenders and may occasionally win but defenders in our league love and want a physical battle so you would be playing into their hands. You should watch Lee Barneys' movement in particular (when he is fit), he causes defenders absolute nightmares in games by ghosting away from them and getting himself into space between them and using his pace to get past. Most of Barneys' goals last year came when he got free from his defenders and they lost track of where he was, finding himself free, something that rarely rarely happens with big forwards who are always within touching distance of their defenders.

I guess we should ask Neil, Jon or Guy who all keep an eye on this forum what type of defender they would least rather defend against?

........but you're mistaking what I'm saying.  I don't mind if we find a 5ft powerhouse like say Sean Sonner or Scott Harris but I would prefer a 6ft powerhouse if possible, that is all.

I think we'll sign Hallahan.

Hope we do. Definitely worth taking a chance on.  He is the type of player Neil and Jon like[ and perhaps Staines Rebel Junior?].

I would still be on the look out for 6ft powerhouse forward regardless.

By the way I was being sarcastic, when I said Sean Sonner and Scott Harris, though you couldn't argue with their dynamism and hard work around the field.

Agree to disagree about the big vs small debate :D

definitely agree about Sonner and S Harris dynamism and work rate.

I think Hallahan proved that he could be a good addition after his previous loan spell but is he not on contract like most other players at Basingstoke. I would like to see Nic Ciardini from Farnborough get a chance but again probably have the problem of possibly being on contract. Another player would be Bajram Pashaj from Egham (WInger) who I think would add something for us and could be converted to a striker.

I've heard of Nic Ciardini but never seen him play. Isn't he a winger?

As for the bloke from Egham, never heard of him but we haven't got time to ponce about making wingers into forwards. We need a new forward now.

To be honest, we should be looking to get two forwards in, as Lee Barney looks like he's miles away from coming back and Gav James is going to be rusty as hell when he comes back. Elijah will be leaving soon, too.

I would bring two new forwards in, George Hallahan being one and look for another.

Then we can make our choices for next season when all are fit.

One thing I would agree with you on, SRJ, is that Bakes and Unders have superior knowledge regarding players in all the divisions at different levels of non-league football, as the amount of games they get to, is a huge credit to both of them and can only help Slough's recruitment policy.

One player who I've never seen play but have heard good reports about, who has scored a number of goals at South and West level, who might be worth having a look at is George Seacole who plays for North Leigh.

Anyone watched him?

'Striker they would least like to defend against'.

Being pedantic because I'm sure we all know what you meant SRJ   :)

George Hallahan is definitely one for the future, not sure he'd be the right piece in the jigsaw to get us promotion.

An experienced predator like Andy Sandell would be perfect   :D
