A couple of non league snippets

Chesham into the 1st round proper of the FA Cup again after a 1-0 home win against Potters Bar..... and Dartford out losing 3-0 at Tonbridge.

It's good that Chesham continue in the FA cup as hopefully it will hinder their league form.

So it's confirmed that Dartford won 3-0   ;)

FA Trophy match with Bognor Regis (who are 4th in the Ryman and in good form) still two weeks away, play at Staines on Tuesday...... will be interesting to see if they get a result there.

It would be two very different matches between Staines and Slough. Two very different playing styles and two very different pitches. The pitch at Staines is fairly bumpy and the grass is often quite long resulting in slow play.

Not so sure about that SRJ, Staines' pitch was relaid by Chelski during the summer and looked a particularly good surface when I was there last (Staines v Enfield Town). Irrespective their and our pitches are quite different as you say.

Sad to hear of the passing of Tommy Lawrence.

What a top manager he was not only for Slough and Enfield but to Non League Football.

So very lucky to have watched his Slough side in action and the top class players he bought to the club.

Remember the season with the long run of consecutive wins going home saying won again won again so like this season.

When he joined he knew how much our club wanted to reach Wembley in the Amateur Cup after so many years of trying this feat he would achieve and it was to be the last final as the following season it became the FA Trophy.

Losing in the last minute scored by our ex striker Roger Connell was very disappointing no injury time then I remember the ref putting the ball on the centre spot blow the final whistle for us all to troop out of Wembley.

He would be proud of our present team and the style of football we are playing.

Yes he took us to two Amateur Cup semi finals and one final. He brought us ALF DARCY, JOHN CONELL, JOE ADAMS AND the great ROGER DAY we already had TERRY REARDON.

Tommy himself was a striker who played for Great Britain but he had to retire having been kicked in the head in one game for GB.

Not much to add to what Rebel Delaney has already said about the late Tommy Lawrence but need to pay my respects all the same. There were some very highly regarded "characters" managing senior "amateur" clubs at the time but Tommy was at the very least the equal of any of them, if not better. There was of course always the bitter irony of losing the 1973 Amateur Cup final to a goal from a player who had been a great favourite at the Dolphin but whom Tommy had released early on. But in the three years he was manager we were treated to some of the most skilful and exciting football most of us had seen at that level-the victory over a very strong Blyth Spartans team in 1973 being up there with the best. RIP Tommy and thanks for all the pleasure you brought us all those years ago.

KGB I Thought the two games v Dagenham in the semi final the previous season were 2 of the best games I have watched.

Playing at Charlton's old stadium with the capacity around 70000 then the replay at Craven Cottage on a hot spring day played after the Boat Race had passed by.

The TV cameras there as highlights were shown on ITV and the Big Match on the Sunday.

Both games had some of the best Amateur Players of there time then the drama action and goals in front of big attendences only for us to lose out again.

In the FA Cup on Saturday Eastleigh beat North Leigh 6-0 with ex Burnham player Ryan Bird scoring 4 goals.

It seem Eastleigh have donated all the match proceeds to North Leigh (not sure if that includes the £12,500 prize money).

Also seems that the Eastleigh Chairman's company sponsors North Leigh.

Very nice gesture from Eastleigh.

Still think 3-3 in the first game flattered us and 2-1 in the second flattered them. I have hated goalies punching ever since as Ian Wolstenhome did in the lead up to their winner.

I started watching Slough in the Lawrence era and can only agree heartily with everyone's comments - we owe him a debt and must pay our respects and send our best wishes to his family
