A couple of non league snippets

Leamington have strengthened again with the signing of Darren Pond from Oxford City.

IMO they will take some stopping this season.

I thought they were one of the best sides I saw last season, so I would think they will be challenging for the title again. Darren Pond was Oxford City captain, so it appears a good signing for them.

The title race looks to be wide open this season. Whether Slough can challenge for the title this season is still a big ask in my opinion and that is not being detrimental to any of signings we've made.

Bakes and Unders have a mammoth task on their hands, in taking a new collection of players, while playing in new surroundings and on varying surfaces and making them into a title chasing side especially as we've had two lower placings in the table, in our two previous Premier division attempts.

I'm expecting a lot better from this squad this season, of course but there's some bloody good sides in this division and it will take some doing to just to finish in the top 8.

One thing, though, there's going to be some cracking matches to watch especially with local-ish teams in there too ie Hayes, Basingstoke, Chesham, Banbury, Kings Langley.

I read somewhere that Beaconsfield's name change was put on hold again, so are still SYCOB for this season, and becoming Town for 17/18.

A big ruckass at The Hitchin v Hendon on Thursday night 9 v 10 for most of the game ended 2-2

Expect another big season from Hitchin.

On the subject of bookings and red cards in pre-season friendlies, something made me think they counted for the league season but apparently not.

Far too many big sides in this league for us to be challenging in my opinion.....

Kettering with their big spending

Leamington strengthening an already strong side

Chippenham keeping hold of Sandell

Redditch (although they have lost players will be a very good side still)

Basingstoke Full time and spending money

Weymouth & Dorchester always a threat

Hitchin

Merthyr

I think anything inside top 10 is a good year for us

The bookies aren't usually too far out.... I think they started us at around 33/1 and sixth from bottom last season (12/1 or shorter is usually quoted on a club they believe is a play-off prospect).

I haven't seen any odds below the Conference South yet, but would expect to see them in the next week.

I see that Hayes and Yeading have been given permission by the local authority to play the first game at their new stadium on Friday in a friendly against Hendon, despite lots of work still to be done on the ground.

So you would assume that their ground has received a Ground Grading and Safety Certificate before their ground is completely finished. Could be an interesting point in our quest to get the new ground ready for our game against them on the 29th August.

From what I know it's not just about the paperwork, I believe that the Club wants to make sure things (including all the logistical arrangements) are exactly right before the first game and will not be rushing to make sure that is the case.

Watched a very good Swindon S/marine side beat Frome 3-1 who only got going in the last twenty minutes.

Marine beat them last season to in pre season game.

Also won £40 on the raffle good day all round.

Look forward to the Rebels league campaign and home coming.

Whilst it's congratulations to Hayes and Yeading on their new ground, it seems they have no terracing at all just a flat tarmaced surface all the way around the ground.

Also it seems they have limited parking possibly due renting part of the car park to another company to bring some revenue in.

Looks like 3 sides flat with no cover and one big stand which apparently sits 1200.
