A quote from Bernie Gogan.

"Away Fan experience for visits to NL (or heavily aspirational) clubs: Dorking 6/10, Eastbourne 7/10, Boring Wood 3/10, Kidderminster 4/10, Maidenhead 6/10, Maidstone 7/10, Ebbsfleet 2/10, Bromley 4/10, Woking 2/10."

Hi Bernie.
You put the above ratings for your visits to these clubs in your Dorking post, and as I seem to have a bit of time at the moment, even though it's a couple of day's since you put them up, I'd like to compare your marks to mine.
Dorking I give 5.
Unnecessary segregation, no proper match programme, but fairly decent away covering.
(Would have given 4 out of 10 but I like their High Street !)

Eastbourne I give 9.
No segregation and have a match programme, decent facilities, can walk down to see the sea before kick-off !

Boring Wood I give 3.
No segregation but no programme, general feel of not being welcome as an away fan.

Kidderminster I give 4.
Segregation but have an over priced programme, decent cover for away fans, impressive ground.

Maidenhead I give 5.( based on my last visit some time ago )
No segregation, I don't think they have a match programme (?), basic facilities.
( Would have been a 4 out of 10, but I can walk to the ground from my house)

Maidstone I give 7.
Segregated isn't it (?), have a match programme, nice facilities.

Ebbsfleet I give 3.
Segregated, have a match programme, limited cover for away fans, limited facilities for away fans.

Woking I give 3.
Segregated, no match programme, limited cover for away fans, limited facilities I think for away fans.
(Would have given 2 out of 10 for having no match programme, but I would feel slightly better  going to Woking than Ebbsfleet so an extra point for that.)

And finally Bromley
Bernie, I cannot believe  that you gave Bromley 4 out of 10 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I give them 0.5 out of 10.
(And that's only because they had a match programme.)
Segregated, a horrible away fan section, non-existent facilities for away fans.
A definite feeling that Bromley did not want us there and that we were a massive inconvenience to them.
I couldn't wait to get out of there.
Probably just fractionally better going to that game than when I went to Marseille for the 1998 World Cup match between England and Tunisia, and had to walk (run), the mile to get on the coach after the final whistle having to  dodge bottles and bricks constantly thrown at us England fans by the locals and Tunisia fans.

These are the votes of the Holyport jury !

Ha ha HR, slight differences but broadly in line with each other!! I must admit on reflection that Bromley was indeed awful, however perhaps my experience is tempered by my visit amongst the home supporters when they played Solihull Moors a couple of years ago. The facilities are truly above standard especially the new stand behind the goal and the bar beneath. I believe the away section there has been upgraded now following their promotion to the EFL, however I'm pretty sure the ambiance won't have changed!

Only visited Hayes Lane once-a 5-1 away win in 1975-and it has clearly changed a great deal in the meantime. They came to Horsham oce or twice in the noughties and I found their officials and supporters amongst the most unpleasant we encountered back then. Their people "invaded" our side of the directors' box once and it was left to me and the affable then chairman of Crawley Town (who bore a striking resemblance to Russ Abbott) to hold the fort.

Bernie, having read your comments about Bromley having facilities for the home fans that are " truly above standard especially the new stand behind the goal and the bar beneath", I am changing the  grading that I gave them.

I am changing it from the 0.5 I gave them originally, to.............................

A BIG FAT ZERO.

That they can think it was perfectly acceptable to spend mega-thousands on facilities for their own fans and not spend a single penny on what were absolutely disgusting, unhygienic, primitive "facilities" for any poor away fan who had the misfortune to go to Bromley's ground to watch their team play, is negligence bordering on criminal.

You say that Bromley have upgraded the away facilities now they are in the Football League.

What, have they taken the dead rats out of the open-air sewer they called a "Gents". ?

That Bromley away visit was truly horrendous.

I know the weather didn't help, but I honestly don't think I've ever been so miserable watching a football match.

On that basis HR, I hereby award Ebbsfleet 0/10!!

I wonder how away fans would rate their experience of Arbour Park.

Obviously being biased but certainly when you compare our ground to others in this division I would hope it’ll be high up. Yes it may not be an old historic traditional or an overly aesthetically pleasing ground but it has nearly every facility a fan would want.

Taken with a pinch of salt but I know there were some comments from the Maidenhead fans after their segregated visit in December.

If we were to go up, it would need to be considered how we can better accommodate away support. Don’t think it’s too bad at the moment with freedom of movement around the ground.

Am I right in thinking all matches in the National League are segregated?

If so I'm guessing we'd have to establish proper facilities in an away end/area so to speak.

Really not sure if they're all segregated but certainly a lot are.

Most clubs in the NL put away supporters in a corner so not sure how that would work at AP.

Still I'm pretty certain we won't have to worry about that for a number of seasons.

I've been to Maidenhead a number of times over the past few seasons (when I can't make a Slough game) and segregation is indeed in place for big clubs, especially ex EFL teams. Absolutely necessary when up to 1k opposition supporters may turn up. However, clubs like Gateshead, Boreham Wood, Dorking, Altrincham, AFC Fylde, Braintree don't travel with hordes of fans so segregation doesn't feature and rightly so imo.

Sad news coming from Chesham who have announced the death of Devonte Aransibia at just 26 !

Formerly with Norwich and part of Maidstones FA Cup run last season
