Something I wasn't aware of, if a player leaves and is out of contract the club are still entitled to compensation from the players new club if they are under 24.

If they have been on a contract & have been offered a new improved contract.

I seem to recall Tyrese Dyce wasn’t on contract (or didn’t want to sign a contract) so wouldn’t be applicable to him although he is 23.

And I think Joe Dandy was on contract and 23, but only made 14 league starts & 7 league sub appearances last season, so presumably wasn’t offered a new improved contract, & therefore wouldn’t be applicable to him.

I did post somewhere on a different thread though that at only 22 and with 62 club appearances I thought Joe Dandy should have been offered a new contract….. it will be interesting to see where he goes & how he does in the future.

With Joe Dandy it possibly boiled down the playing budget.

Using the money saved to sign a player in a position that was more needed on the pitch.

Maidenhead have published their retained and released player list.

This is an area where I think Maidenhead have had a very good business plan over something like the last 10 years.

They have continually developed players in their early 20’s on contract and then received fees or sell on clauses on numerous occasions (even when we signed Temi Eweka we had to pay them a small fee).

This appears to have played a big part in enabling them to maintain National League level for what is now seven seasons (?), whilst only making loses of £150-£200k per season on comparatively low attendances, when many other clubs at that level are making annual losses of between £500k and £1 million.

It’s a plan I think we would benefit from replicating but obviously at break even or much smaller annual losses/investment each season.

I thought that was what Academy23 was all about at Slough ie the new owners wishing to see younger players come through to the first team.

Trouble is the gap between academy matches and the NLS is massive and that's why young players have to go out on loan to the leagues below to get 'adult match ready' and even then it  doesn't always work.

The idea seems a good one but very difficult to achieve.

If all those National League teams are making those sort of losses, why be in it?

As far as I'm aware Tyrese lives further north so a bit surprised he's gone to Maidenhead when there must be more options closer to home.

Thought he might have thanked us on twitter! We have become non leagues stepping stone!!!

Goal keeper Ross Worner has left Havant citing not being able to commit to full time training due to work commitments.

It's never going to happen but what a signing that would be 😒
