Im guessing Drew Roberts will be turning up at another club in our league In his twitter statement he does invite St Neots fans to boo him He does say his decision was nothing to do with finance or clashes with managemennt purely based on a change of direction and ambition

I'd guess with Kearns Senior stepping down the financial investment has been reduced? He must have finally realised throwing money at it was only taking the club so far and the fan base may have reached its peak. Don't know who they've signed so far but can't see them challenging although would expect a top half finish.

Ex Slough player Simon Martin looks like he is retiring from football.

Sean Cronin has left Hayes and Yeading for Wingate and Finchley, so Hayes will be looking to sign a centre half. As long as they don't nick our new one !

I think Simon Martin retired before he signed for us !!!

Harsh.

Age catches up with every player and also the style of play counts for a lot.

All fans make judgements, myself included but the mere fact that he has played for Lincoln United, Hucknall Town, Thurrock, Hayes and Yeading, Wealdstone, St Albans, Slough, Aylesbury and has finished his non league footballing career at Hitchin, a team that finished that finished 3rd in table last season, speaks volumes for him.

He may not have been an ever present in the Hitchin team but they still managed to use him in their squad, which proves he isn't as bad as some will have you believe.

I understand that he isn't to every fan's taste and when at Slough, he wasn't a prolific striker and sometimes he could miss the goal mouth by a country mile but 21 goals in 83 appearances isn't such a bad return for a player who was often the third choice striker in the squad.

Also I do not know how many assists he got, which often goes unnoticed when you're the type of player that Simon Martin is ie tall, cumbersome, ungainly.

We never viewed Simon Martin in his prime at Slough to know how good he was but of his time playing for us, I thought he was an excellent signing by Steve Bateman for his squad, and did a reasonable job in the time he was with us.

Never going to be the star of the show but always an honest trier. Football, as well as in life need people like that !

I think you're right 3spirit 'an honest trier who could score some good goals' just about sums Simon Martin up.

Reminded me of Andrew Deaner, much maligned but an honest trier who could score the odd spectacular goal.

I didnt realise our current landlords are officially Beaconsfield Town from this coming season I knew it was mooted but now official

Makes sense to break ties to the Slough area by giving up the name SYCOB, as Beaconsfield is firmly in Buckinghamshire and is growing in population terms and area size.

Whether they get any more supporters is another thing ! Better sponsorship, maybe?

The SYCOB part came as a result of the merger between Beaconsfield United and Slough Youth Centre Old Boys teams in 1994

Edit- we will have to see if they fair any better than Windsor and Eton did after we left them. I'm sure their coincidental financial problems only hurt them after we stopped paying rent. (Only a joke)

Not a ground you can walk up to from Beaconsfield and surrounding area, not much in the way of public transport either. This was part of our problem in attracting more support.

Didn't they want to change to Beaconsfield Town last season, but were too late in submitting the request?
