Couldn't happen to a nicer club.

I remember the playoff game where the ground was full of glory hunters and thugs just wanting to fight.

And then there was that mad super windy game where they were totally incapable of keeping balls on the pitch and time wasted getting the balls back.

Terrible ground with awful viewing.

Steve Bateman is well off out of there.

I remember the windy game, Guy Hollis had arms like Popeye at the end as the goalie couldn't do anything but put it out over the dugouts for a throw on🤣🤣

Really? He had no idea where Kettering was when he signed up!

It's probably like most things, they might seem like a good idea at the time but not when your struggling at the bottom of the league, under pressure and having to do a 4 hour round trip 2 or 3 times a week.

I was at that match, & I seem to recall it was us that couldn’t keep the ball on the pitch & Jack Turner kept smashing goal kicks out for throw ins, as if it was a tactic we were employing.

And we seemed delighted to come away with a 0-0 after losing to them at home in the opening match of the season.

There was also a gold of a wind at Barnstable.

The keeper took a goal kick down the pitch towards the sea end, the wind got hold not the ball, took it to the left, and backwards as soon as it got some height. It then hit my car which was parked on the side of the pitch behind the line the kick was taken from.

I was at both games. The latter game was indeed awful the ball was mostly out of the ground and yes we were happy with 0-0.

The ground wasn't Kettering's anyway so were ground sharing, but since those times we've both been promoted so no need to visit. They have done some improvements in order to comply with league rulings and improve spectator viewing. so now not quite such a poor stadium. You can check this out on their You Tube game postings.

I remember the first game there that season where they were bottom and we won 5-1. As I remember Ashley Deeney was in their squad, and I think there was a flag/bucket collection to help keep the club afloat.

Shortly thereafter they had a meteoric rise up the table and ended up finishing above us, culminating of course in that memorable play-off. Makes you wonder where all that money went.

I'd hazard a guess at mismanagement in paying too much for the wrong players, lower attendances and extortionate ground rent.

A couple of managerial changes that might interest some.

Ex Havant manager Paul Doswell has become the new manager at Sholing FC.

After being given the elbow at Enfield and Kettering Town, Andy Lees is the new manager at Histon FC

Watch Sholing shoot up the leagues with Doswell’s backing.
