A couple of non league snippets

Justin Bennett is leaving Gosport at the end of the season due to no longer enjoying his football and has issued a 'come and get me' plea to other clubs.

I wonder where he lives?

[

Seemed to be enjoying his football tonight 1 goal and an assist as they beat Basingstoke 3-1/quote]

It seems that it gives them an opportunity to bid for their old Rockingham Road ground should it come up for sale. Not wishing to knock it but the chance of Kettering out bidding a property developer or Supermarket chain etc must be pretty slim to zero.

They also say that if they get promoted they could bring Latimer Park up to the standard required by the Conference. From what I remember of Latimer Park I'd say that will take some doing and a lot of money.

Kettering have made considerable improvements to their ground since we played them 2 years ago in the play off. They added a brand new stand behind the goal which used to have the trees behind it and have added more seating on one side. There is still plenty of room for improvements but they have already taken big steps in the last 2 years.

One thing they really need to do though is flatten the pitch as it was awful !!!

Basingstoke have been relegated but have just announced they're going full time next season! Utter madness and are obviously bowing to new manager Terry Brown's demands. Ok they'll say it's young players but it'll still cost a bit and it's not as if they get massive crowds. Going to be a boom or bust coming season for them?

They say it'll be a mixture of young players who have been discarded form other clubs and experienced players.

Perhaps Mr Brown is dipping into his own pocket, either way it's sheer madness for a club of their size and gates.

I think full time is classified as 35 hours per week.... and the squad will probably comprise of young lads aspiring to be future professional and willing to accept apprentice or minimum wages of £3.30, £5.30 or £6.70 per hour.

A squad mixed at those rates would be about £5 per hour or £175 per week..... would that be a lot more than what clubs at the top end of our level are paying most of their players?

You have a very valid point. I've heard that sometimes full time works out cheaper, too.

Terry Brown's experienced players are bound to be on a hell of a lot more, though and getting players up to the task from these academies and pro clubs isn't as easy as it sounds.

Whether it's the way to proceed at Step 3 remains to be seen,

I wouldn't mind few cast offs from the Basingstoke team to find their way to our team ! ha ha!

Although their team went down, they had a number of useful players in their midst when we played them in the cup match.

I see our old friend Elliot Buchanan scored all 4 goals for Bishops Stortford on Saturday

He's the top scorer in the Conference North.

Pretty sure Basingstoke will be after decent young players who still have potential so I doubt any will be on minimum wages! Terry Brown is used to having decent budgets and as mentioned the experienced players he'll bring in won't be cheap either. I'd be surprised if the budget isn't higher than this season.

Not sure. I think we under performed in that game and still pushed them close.

They might have the odd one or two.

Exactly one or two. Maybe three at a push.

Last season I said on here that we should perhaps look to sign a couple of players from Staines Town, a team who had been relegated from the Conference South, one of them being Elliot Buchanan !

Now, he didn't do bad at his new club. did he? ! ha ha ha!

Mr Buchanan scored another goal last night and is now the leagues top scorer by 4 goals.
