Baker & Underwood to Beaconsfield to replace Gary Meakin who resigned this week

Gary Meakin did tweet on 18th Feb that he intended to leave Beaconsfield at the end of the season!  Saying he was in need of a new challenge. Seems others wouldn’t  wait

Is that correct or is it a wind up?

There doesn’t appear to be anything on Bakes or Unders Twitter yet, and they aren’t usually shy when it comes to posting.

Expect an announcement today I believe

This would really surprise me if true, as I thought B&U would be looking to stay at step 2 if not a very ambitious well backed step 3 club which we all know Beaconsfield aren’t. But on the other hand I guess B&U can’t hang around waiting for their preferred clubs forever and don’t want to be out of the game too long?

You'd also look at who at step 2 they'd go to......Hemel and Hampton jobs have come and gone....Weymouth have given Bobby a stupidly long contract.....No chance of Farnborough with Spencer day etc...perhaps they have run out of step 2 options

Perhaps they're just dipping their toes back into the water for the remainder of this season until something else comes up.

Really can't see it being anything other than that at a club that has little to offer any ambitious manager.

Well, if they do turn up at Beaconsfield I will go and watch 'em ! Obviously not at the expense of watching Slough. As long as they don't get rid of Elliot Buchanan for Ben Harris ! ha ha ! SloughFlyer are you reading this?

Trouble is managers soon get forgotten about especially if they haven't achieved much in the last couple of seasons.

A great coup for Beaconsfield,if true.

Bakes and Unders wish to remain in their full time jobs outside of football so the chosen club needs to be accessible from their jobs and homes for midweek matches and training.

Beaconsfield Town won successive Southern League Premier Division South home matches 5-2 in January against Chesham United (attendance 395) and Hayes & Yeading United (attendance 270) but have had six home league attendances this season under 100 despite the stadium revamp and 3G pitch.

Last season they finished 17th with goal difference F70 A92. This season they are 11th with goal difference F50 A47.

How much further does their chairman Christopher Coyle think they can be taken?

The club fields 17 teams at various levels and has an interesting "Our vision & values" page on their website :-

Despite the low attendances for football, the club has some strong revenue streams from the other facilities at Holloways Park.

It's a real pity Beaconsfield don't get better crowds. I like the club and hope things continue to improve there. The people behind the club certainly deserve praise for their efforts. It must be demoralising not getting increased attendances but as you say SG, least they have other streams of revenue.

Only a great coup if they stay for at least another season which I doubt very much unless they have changed their minds and are happy to plod along.

If not they are just keeping the seat warm for another manager to take over next season.

Bakes and Unders live somewhere around the Farnborough/Fleet area which with traffic is roughly a 2 hour round trip which is not exactly easily accessible from their homes 2/3 times a week.

Beaconsfield is not a traditional football town so attendances will always be low unless they play either a local derby against a club like Chesham or a club with a big following or a big cup tie.

I would guess the 395 attendance against Chesham was primarily made up of Chesham supporters.

How much further can they be taken?

If their Chairman wants to spend silly money they could well achieve promotion but if he thinks the money he puts in to bring success means their revenue through attendances will increase accordingly I think he will be sadly mistaken and that he'll soon get fed up with pouring money into a black hole.

Dont worry gents, I'm still about ;)

Still attending every game, but started a new job following Xmas, along with being unwell over Xmas has limited my time.

But you lot don't want to know about all of that, it's nice to know I'm missed though :)

As for Neil and Jon to Beaconsfield, seems a strange one if true, at least 1 step (level) and 2 steps (crowds and ground) backwards IMO, but as others have said, the opportunities might be limited for 2 managers and the area I suspect they are looking in. Only benefit for them is the Beaconsfield chairman does put a few quid in as the crowds they get are rubbish.

What if Slough get relegated.

Bakes and Unders go to Beaconsfield, their Chairman backs them for a few quid and they start recruiting to challenge for the title/ play offs, and ex Slough players start turning out for Beaconsfield. That might get a few more on the gate !

A few more yes but I'm sure nothing of any note.

I don't remember but what sort of increase did SYCOB get on their attendances when they won the treble under Jamie Jarvis?
